What is a 225/45 rim? Also, when you say smallest do you mean height or width or both?

Tire 225/45/17

Rim 17x8 (offset?)

1st - need to know what rim you have - it is possible to go too small for the rim

2d - why go smaller? (are you driving the right car?)

What specific model of Subaru is this for?

How wide are the wheels?

You can fit a 215 onto a 6-8" wide wheel, but 7" is best.

i have 215's on 7.5 in rim. the over all diameter is alittle bit smaller. doesnt effect speedo too much and i think it looks alittle better stretched. also the side wall is probably going to be stiffer...

No, it doesn't affect the diameter of the tire. At least, not as far as the speedo and revs-per-mile are concerned, because those are actually determined by the circumference of the tire. No, it doesn't look better stretched, and no, the sidewall isn't stiffer either.

yo ban suvs chill out man. it does effect the total diameter. if you have the same number sidewall, which he will 45 it is a percentage of the width the 215 or 225 number. this would effect the height of the tire.

Sorry, I read your post as "my 215s on a 7.5" rim are shorter diamater than on a narrower rim." My bad. I've heard sillier things coming from people who like to stretch tires on a wheel, and since I don't know you I have no experience with which to decide that you wouldn't say something like that.

215/45R17 is slightly shorter than 205/55R16, and 225/45R17 is slightly taller, which is why 215s are the recommended size by TireRack- they aren't allowed to recommend going larger.

haha right right, its cool. they arent stretched like crazy. i just like alittle slope over the straight look when you put the recommended size. plus i dont rub as much when i have fat people sitting in the back.
