Winter Rim and tire package for 04 STI
I have been looking around and so far I am told I will need to keep with the stock size rim and tires for a winter package, anyone else hearing this?
I was told it was due to the Brembo Brakes, which I can understand, but the dealer around here wants near $800 per rim and winter tires are around $200 for the 17" variety.
What do you think of the H rated Alpins? I have heard mostly positive feedback on them, I want to stay away from the Blizzak's because I will definitly wear through them.
Sorry for the rambling too much caffine I guess

An ideal package for the STi includes the ASA KA3 in 17x7.5 for $149 each and a 225/45-17 tire like the Winter Sport M2 for $139 each or the Blizzak LM-22 for $154 each.

In the spirit of minus-sizing for Winter, I'm wondering if it would be bad if you tried to put 205/50R17 tires on the 17x7.5 rims.
Even though the LM-22 and the M2 are listed for up to 7.5", I dunno if that is actually good to try.
Not sure if having a 1279lbs. max load instead of 1356lbs. makes any difference either.
Are there any downsides to this?
Ideally, I'd like to run a 205/55R16, but I don't think any 16" rim will clear the Brembo's.
Next best thing would be 205/50R17 on 17x7" rims, but I'm not sure that they'll fit either.
I did find a place on the net that lists a number of 17x7 rims for a 2004 STI, but I'm not so sure about that : http://www.discounttiredirect.com
If TireRack (where I usually get my tires) had these listed, I'd have no doubts

thanks,
the reason I asked about the rims being discontinued is because I went to a dealer and said he put together a package for me that had the JS5's wheels cause the other rims he had didn't fit or were being discontinued. and I know he had the KA3's.
thanks for straightening that out!
should I call you to order or how would I go about this?

Yes - click here for a pic of the silver ASA KA3 for the STi winter packages.
