Will 245/40/17 fit a 17x9 rim?

I'm looking to get some tires for a 17x9 rim. It previously had 235/40/17's and they stretched to fit the rim.

Would a 245/40/17 still not be width enough? Would I be better off with a 255/40/17?

I guess the last part of this question, is anyone know any places selling the old advan a032r's in those sizes?

thanks,

245/40-17 is recommended for 8.5" width but fits 8-9.5" width range.
255/40-17 is recommended for 9" width but fits 8.5-10" width range.

I'm running 245/40-17 on 17x8.5" +45.

Can't seem to find any place who STILL sells/carries OLD Advan A032R... but why not go for the NEWER Advan A048?

Well, the A032R was decent in wet weather. The tires are going on a seldom driven car

I just got a set of Yokohama S.drives. Despite the crappy name, they look a hell of a lot like Advans in tread design and material, with a higher wear rating and a stronger center ridge. I'm still being gentle with them; it will take about 250 miles for them to burn off the coating and really get soft, but as of right now I'm pretty thrilled with them.

But yeah, if the car is only going to see a track, get the Advans.

Both sizes would fit fine, the 245 will have a little stretch

I ran 255/40/17 on 17x8's without any problem - and they were A032R's. So your 245's will easily fit on a 17x9, but you'll likely end up with a lot of rim lip showing.

I would not recommend driving them on the street though. They were fine on the drive out to the track, but they tend to pick up every rock and piece of debris on the road and follow every crack or slight bump. They are a DOT approved R compound, but on the street, you would be lucky to get 10,000 miles out of them. They're a track tire and should be used as such.

That would last 2 years for this car, maybe 3.

It's had 17,000 miles in 6 years. So I'm not worried to much about wear.

I used to get lazy and drive around in hoosiers or RA1s on the street after a track day. It keeps the tailgaters at bay
