Why 114.3 PCD? Here is why?
Increased torque requires stronger hubs and wheel bearings. Both the hub and the bearings were dramatically strenghtened. The wheel bearings on MY05 STi's are not larger anc can handle a lot more power. The PCD also changed to 114.3 from 100. Sure that ruins the whole family tradition, but opens the doors to the pretty much unlimited wheel supply as there are thousands of wheels in 5x114.3 in Suby-friendly offsets.
That also increases load capacity of the wheel. But I now wonder if they are going to go to the more conventional 5x114.3 across the board - after all the STi is based on the lightest (US bound) Subaru and the Legacies are heavier and make only 50ft lbs less torque w/ the 2.5t. And there are plenty of WRX owners with wheel bearing issues...
