What will work best with 18x8.5 rims?

right now my 18x8.5 rota grids are on my stock tires, 245/40/18

does rub a bit, looking to change tires soon but not sure what would be the best fit for my rims. 225/40/18 or 235/40/18?

i do plan on lowering the car, swifts or cobbs.

what would look best with the drop iam looking for and if any1 has pics please share them!. thanks

I wouldn't put 225 on 8.5" width wheel. If you concern about the rub (especially if your car is a wagon), then go w/ 235/40-18. Ideally you'd want to put 245/40-18 on 8.5" width wheel.

Some links to help out:

Some tires are wider or narrower than others. My current 235/40-17 Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec tire is almost as wide as my previous 245/40-17 Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position tire.

Btw, Hankook Ventus R-S2 (Extreme Performance Summer tire) is on close out deal at Tire Rack... $99 for 235/40-18!

Please, don't go cheap on tires. I agree with the advice on the width/size, going down in width by mere millimeters is not going to affect rub as much as camber and strut length do. But really, you spent all that money on the car and wheels, $99 Chinese junk tires?

FYI, Hankook is made by Korean.

There are always good & bad models tires in ANY brand... R-S2 is one of the GOOD street tire made by Hankook & will outsmoke most of street tires. The reason for low price is R-S2 is on CLOSEOUT deal (being replaced by R-S3). If this R-S2 closeout deal was last year when I needed summer tires, I'd have gotten them without doubt.

You're missing my point here -- your tires are the only point of contact between you and the ground, this is not the place to shave dollars for a deal; there are dozens of tires rated higher than that one from manufacturers with a long racing history (Dunlop, Yokohama, Goodyear, Pirelli) that are within $10-$20 of that price.

Trust me... I know TIRE is one of the most important part of a car, but YOU are the one who's missing the point: Dunlop, Yokohama, Goodyear, & Pirelli... they ALL make BAD tires as well. Long racing history means nothing... because those are RACING tires & they were just sponsors of the event. Btw, Hankook has also been in racing scenes for more than a decade as well & sponsored lots of Time Attack cars.

R-S2 is NOT a cheap tire (quality & price). The ONLY reason that is low price now because is on CLOSEOUT (being replaced)... same thing happened to Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R beginning of this year.

The only street tires that will outperform Hankook Ventus R-S2 are Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD07/AD08, Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R/RE-11, & Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec... the rest are not even close to compete... ok maybe Falken Azenis RT-615 is close.

Race tire technology trickles down to street tires. You're only going to find bad tires from the major racing sponsors if you buy from the bottom of their line multi-season W-Rated.

I just took advantage of this deal, $357.28 delivered to my front door, can't beat that. I am sure there are better tires, but I'm not autocrossin anytime soon. Will be a nice street tire for me.
