what is the final word for wheels for a WRX wagon?
I'm sorry, I've been reading through all of the different posts about wheels for a WRX wagon and it seems to go back and forth.
I like the SSR Competition wheels in Anthracite w/Mach Lip, but the 17x7.5's seem to require a 225/45-17 tire. I was hoping to pair those rims up with some Pirelli PZero Nero M&S tires.
Will these rub on a '03 WRX wagon?
I saw "offset" mentioned a lot in reference to this, but I'm not really sure what everyone is referring to.
By the way, I have everything stock. I'm looking to replace the stock 16" wheels with 17's.
If these wheels aren't going to work, can someone recommend something with a similar finish? I like that metallic, but not chrome look.

For more info on offset, look at the sticky at the top of this forum section. We Imprezas usually need of offset of about -45mm to -48mm, depending on wheel size and desired handling characteristics.
I can't say much about rubbing on the wagon, I'm a sedan.
If you have the money, you can get just about anything you want. Go for JDM wheels like Volk, Advan, SSR, Works, Weds Sport, etc. Chrome on sports cars in Japan nowadays is like pigs flying or blue moons, so you'll be fine shopping for Japanese wheels. The SSR Comp's are fine. You'll be okay. Besides, I'm sure you're considereing suspension work in the future right?

Here's mine with the same wheels/tires you desire:
17x7.5 ET50mm with 225/45-17. They don't rub, but are VERY close on the rear. If you go with lower offset - say 48mm - you might have to remove that black rubber fender liner on the rear. Same goes for if you use a wider wheel or tire.

how do you change the offset? i read that sticky topic about that, but would you do something to increase/decrease the offset?
by the way, dexter, your car looks awesome. did you do anything to it besides wheels/tires? did you change the brakes out or anything? those wheels look great. i have the wagon in red.
oh, and choku, i am thinking about changing the suspension in the future, but i don't know how near future.

Offset can be lowered by using spacers, but can not be raised by practical means. The measure of offset is counter-intuitive; the lower the offset, the further the wheel sticks out.
Thanks for the complement on the car! I have only change the brakes to Hawk HPS, but that's the only external modification. I'm very careful about mods because I need this thing to last 300k miles - I live a long way from work.
