I think you could run either of those sizes on a 17x8 wheel. The only difference is the sidewall height. I've seen a 235/45/17 fit on a wrx and not rub, if you are worried about that.

on the 235/45/17, there is a 1.6% difference in overall tire diameter, so your spedo will be really close to spot on. With the 235/40/17, there is about a 5% difference in the overall tire diameter, so there will be a bigger spedo difference.

I have 17x7.5 rotas with 48mm offset and 225 45 17 so3s and have had no rubing issues on stock springs and now on SPT springs (1.4 front, 1.2 rear) but Im not sure about if the spedo is correct (I think it is). Could someone tell me if my spedo is correct and if not how far is it off + or -?

Disreguard this, I tried to erace this post but I couldnt. Dumb Question nKoan already answerd it.

Thanks.

You could use 225/45s the in addition to the two sizes you mentioned.

First off where did you get 17X7.5" Rota Torques. I have a set of 17X8's and have never seen 7.5. Anyway, your tire size of 225 45 17 is almost the exact same size as stock. You could also use 245 40 17 with almost no change in speedo. There is no combination of 235's that will fit correctly. Check out this site for a calculator of tire sizes.
