Tape weights don't work with aluminum wheels?

Hi all,

Just got off the phone with my local Subaru dealer, made an appointment for the 15,000 mile service.

I also asked about wheel balancing. I have a vibration at 60-75 mph. I running Rota SDRs and asked if they can balance them using tape weights. The service guys said that tape weights don't work with aluminum wheels and that's why aluminum wheels have "lips" on them. They suggest using clip weights.

Is this a bunch of baloney or what?

Isnt it the opposite of that? Almost all the wheel/tire shops use sticky weights on wheels. They do tend to fall off after time, but they dont damage the wheel.

I have tape weights on my tarmac II's (over 1 year now)...no issues. They are feeding you baloney...oscar meyer style.

I'd love to see someone put rim weights on some SSR's!!! That would look awesome. j/k

Thanks for the confirmation guys,

I assumed this was a case of another "SOA professional" not knowing his @$$ from a hole in the ground.

I'm now bringing the car to a dedicated wheel and tire shop to have them rebalanced.
