depends on what purpose you are looking for. if you are not going to go in the snow, then you want something for dry/rain. if thats the case i suggest bridgestone potenza s-03s. they are awesome tires and most will agree with me. however they are a little pricey, you will be looking at around $160 a piece.

I never drove on the RE070's.
I sold them and mounted SO3's on the stock STI wheels. I had a set of track wheels and tires, and the stock tires would not have cut it in the rain where I live. The S03's kick azz. They tear up the road wet or dry. There is no noticable tracking or road noise. Tread wear is even and normal for a z rated tire.
Oh yeah, I got my car in the mud yesterday, and they did well.
Not a winter tire.

wow, you took s-03s in the mud, i love off roading and would never take my s-03s off road. maybe its cause they are so expensive that i want them to last as long as possible
glad to hear they don't do too bad in the mud though, just in case i come upon a moment to good to pass up

The SO-3 has awsome grip in the dry and is very well mannered in the wet. Doesn't have a road noise. And has lasted me a long time for the punishment I put them through. Though all the track days and autoX that I've done with the tire, it has always been prdictable (sp?).

1) The RE 070's are scary in rain but in the 5"- 20" of rain we've had here in Hawaii this rainy season, the SO-3's have felt great. I don't know if they are a HiPro Wet tire but they feel like one.
2) Awsome low temp GRIP! The dumb RE 070's would have to be "track" hot to grip well. IMO The SO-3's are a better daily driving HiPro tire.
3) The RE 070's wear like a pencil eraser.
4) The SO-3's have way less road noise than the RE 070's, I'd say about 40% less IMO.
5) I think the SO-3's are like $15-$20 cheaper than the RE 070's.
If I think of anything else I'll add it later.

I'm still running on my stock RE070, but plan to replace them with S03s when they finally wear out. My only real complaint about RE070s is the noise. I drove thru a pretty good size rain storm a few weeks ago and felt comfortable with them. Other then road driving I've mostly used them for Autox and have learned how to work with them. As MachV said they do seem to require some warm up before they stick well.
I had S03 on my WRX Wagon (previous car) and found them a good balance for AutoX, track days and everyday driving.
If you are looking for something cheaper with a bit more stick you may want to look into Falken Azenis Sports. Be warned though that they are noisey and may not be the best tire for heavy rain.
