This is a nice happy ending, but I must admit I am going to think pretty hard in the future before spending $390+ a wheel... A friend of mine has been rallying his car (not a WRX) on used Miata wheels and pounding the crap out of them for two years and they show no signs of stress. $120 well spent (for all four!) Yet that SSR wheel sheared off like it had been cut with a sawz-all, and on asphalt no less...

The smaller the wheel, the less stress it must endure. 13" wheels don't have near the torsional loads that 18" wheels do. On top of that, the SSRs are engineered to be as light as possible, while most wheels are engineered to cost specifications.

The clearcoat was flacking off mine SSR comps and they didn't honor there warranty either. I'm the first owner and it was less than a year. Tirerack is way overrated.

they did replace her rim that broke free of charge
