SSR crackage!

SSR crackage!
what happened?
- on a road course
- high speed left hander (80+ mph)
- on S03s
- loud noise:
"clunk... clunk"
- pulled in... (see pix)

yup. that would be my car. 
did not hit a burm (sp?), haven't had any off track excursions on these wheels. owned them for 1 year. seen approximately 15 track days. ???
have no idea why they cracked...

yeah.. i've never seen that happen to any wheels before 
guess i just have a knack of breaking things i'm lucky it was only two as opposed to all of them tho...

Have you considered contacting SSR and trying to have them replace the wheel. There are no obvious marks on the outer lip indicating any impact to cause the spokes to crack. It seems like a clear example of a defect on their part.

will probably do that monday. anybody know who to contact? i've been told perhaps the us distributors and not ssr directly since they are in japan, but i am not sure...

Yeah, I'd definitely try to get a replacement. They might want to see the wheel to analyze it and see why it failed. Can't hurt to try...
The very clean break certainly indicates it was some sort of material defect.

damn vanessa you must drive your car really hard. haha no wonder those "other" brakes needed to be upgraded to something better. good luck getting the wheel replaced.
I keep thinking about what may have caused the problem...wondering if it could be heat related from the BBK/rotors plus the additional track pounding sessions? Only thing is the wheels are all ways spinnin'...don't know about after a session while the wheels are just sittin'...if the BBK would still be putting of tons of heat or not...
I think Christian took a heat reading of my breaks after one of my sessions but I can't remember the temp. Just know my turbo was pretty damn hot!

but in a way.. those wheels were designed to be used on track so they claim, right? where they are supposed to be ok with taking repetitive stress from tracking, and even some berm hopping from time to time for those who love berms.
it isn't that it's always the stress on that one side, as i've run in both directions and gone and gotten 3 new sets of tires on these rims in the last year... so i dunno...
but wut pat was saying about the clean break is something to ponder. it looks almost as if someone took a knife and just sliced two spokes out...... does that happen with material defects? how would u know?
also other things been thinking about: these wheels never even saw r compound... so if the lateral force with just street tires is too great causing it to break... how strong would they be with stickier tires? a bit of a scary thought when considering which wheels to slap on a car u track...
