Noisy Tires
I have had a set of "225/45WR-17 Sumitomo HTR+" tires on my WRX for about 19,000 miles and they have started to make alot of nosie recently. I rotated them front to back at about 10,000 miles and it appears that the rear ones are now worn on the inside ( as if there was too much negative camber) and they also appear to be somewhat cupped and I assume that is where the noise is coming from.
The noise is a rubble at about 20mph and at 80 - 85mph it becomes somewhat of a high frequency vibration and an annoying hum.
Anyone else have this problem? I assume I will have to get new tires and an alignment.

If you've had a lot of weight in the car for a prolonged period, that could be the cause. With MacPherson struts added weight creates negative camber, and inside tire wear. The inside wear will tend to ripple the tread on that side. If you take the wheel off you will notice that the leading edge of the tread will look loose (the look is difficult to describe). You might try taking a file to the leading edges all the way around the tire. If you get rid of the "loose" bits it should fix the noise problem.
This advice is from personal experience gained from travelling across Canada and back (15000kms) in a heavily loaded Legacy wagon.

Brandon,
That's interesting. I have the same tires in the same size on my wagon with about 20k miles and no noise whatsoever. I did rotate after winter in a cris-cross pattern. If you have two jacks and some stands, give this rotation a try. It might feel strange for a hundred or so miles but it may be a solution short of replacement.
