Need some help..

I did a search and didn't really find what I was looking for unless my wording was incorrect. Can I run a 235/40/17 on a 17x7.5 wheel with a 48mm offset on a Stock 04 STI and as far as sidewall height will it have a shorter sidewall than the 225/45/17 that come stock..I want to run the widest tire I can on a 17x7.5 wheel. And if anybody has pictures of what I am looking for that would be great.

A 235/40/17 will have a 14.5 mm smaller od than a 225/45/17. 14.5 mm is over a half inch (1"=25.4mm). Sorry but Im not sure if a 235 will work with a 7.5" wide wheel. I would think it might since I have heard of people going with a 225 on a stock WRX wheel that is 7" wide but I dont know that it would be the best way to go handeling wise. Hopefully Luke will chime in.

After looking at tires I think I might just go with the stock size picked out some tires already...Does anybody have any input on the Kumho Ecsta KU19 tire will be used for street driving so not to worried about how they are on a track. I'll eventually get some tires for the stock wheels if I ever do a track day again..

if you want to run a wider tire, i would suggest a 235/45/17. its only 0.3 inches larger than stock compared to the .6 inches smaller o.d. of the 235/40s. (and yes i know quite a few people who are running 235/45/17 on 7.5" rims on their wrx (mostly all sedans)

yes 235 width will work on a 7.5" wheel. and people put 225s on the stock wrx wheels which are 6.5" wide (not 7")
