Need Help W/new Tires

I recently bought some Yokohama ES100's. I went from my stock size of 205/55/16 to a 225/45/16. My question is... is the speedometer reading way off now? It definately seems like it is off. If it is off, won't it affect my trip-meter (miles)? Also, would there be anything i could do to change it? Someone help me with this please!

Yes your spedo and odometer will be off because your new tires are 23mm (almost 1") smaller. You would have been better off buying 225/50/16's and you would have been only .5mm off. Here is the place to learn how to figure these things out https://www.i-club.com/forums/showth...threadid=55297

not only is your tire almost an inch too short which will throw off the speedo but, you have other issues as well

you will not get very good wear from those tires because the minimum wheel width for a 225/45-16 is 7.0" and the OE wheel is 6.5" so, in order to get decent transition feel and good sidewall response you will need to run higher air pressures so, the center area of the tread contact patch will wear out pretty fast ..... to combat that you would need to run lower air pressure which will make the sidewall deflection very noticable and the car will feel very vague and unresponsive to driver inputs

Find someone who owns a Civic and wants tires and sell them.

So would running 225/50/16 still have that same problem???

No. 225 50 16 is an acceptable alternative for the stock wheels. They would retain the correct wheel diamter and because of the larger sidewalls would be alright for mounting on a 6.5" width rim.

Why do you think these tires have a larger sidewall?

He probably means that by the sidewalls being larger they will also be less stiff, therefore allowing them to be installed on a larger variety of rim widths.

The side walls on a 225 50 16 are the same size as a 205/55/16 because the 225s have a lower aspect ratio; 50 compared to 55.

You are correct but he is talking about the difference in height from a 225/45/16 and a 225/50/16 tire and there is a difference of 11.25 mm on the sidewall and 22.5 mm OD. Read the first 2 posts and you will see what I'm talking about .
