Just Drove the Conti Extreme Contact

Just got back from a test drive on the Conti Extreme Contact - pretty impressed. The test car was an '03 BMW 330CI and the tire size was 225/40-18. We have 4 of these BMWs; one had the Contis, another had the Yokahama AVS DB S2, another had the Pirelli P-Zero Nero AS and the last with the 17" OE Goodyear Eagle RS-A.

All three of the tested tires impressed me. It might have been because it was my first time behind the wheel of the new BMWs. The road was wet so I couldn't test the dry limits, but they were well composed in the wet.

The Conti was surprisingly responsive, and lived up to my expectations; which were high. It was relatively quiet on the highway with nice wet traction. The handling was quite predictable and never "squirmy," which was a nice surprise.

I did like the Yokahama a bit more, and the Pirelli about the same. For overall value, the Conti wins. I will now begin recommending this tire as a great ultra-high performance all-season value for the Subarus in sizes 205/55-16, 225/50-16, 215/45-17, 225/45-17, and 225/40-18.

I'll be testing these all on the race track on Thursday - expect a full report...

The value on the Conti, I estimate, will show itself in terms of longevity.
