good tire, light weight and not so LOUD??
I'm currently on dunlop fm901's.. they'r fregn LOUD. I've heard that these are actually some of the less noisy tires on the market. I find that hard to believe though cuz when I'm cruising at 40mph that's when they hit their solid harmonic annoyance factor and I can't even hear my stereo.
Anyways they'r starting to get on the bald side and I want to get rid of them. Can someone recommend a good tire that's quiet?
my priorities for the new meats go
50% quiet
40% grip
10% tread life

i think the Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S tires are supposed to be quite light, and pretty quiet -- though i don't have a set so i couldn't say for sure. Toyo Proxes are pretty light too, but not sure about the noise levels.

thx for the input guys
I'm seriously considering these PS2's
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....4YR8SPORTPS2N2
by the reviews they seem to be a good all around tire that's quiet.
does the size have much to do with the noise? my rims are 18x8.5 and I've got 235/40's on there now. thinkin about going wider if it will help with the noise

For an 8.5 inch wide wheel, it looks like you can do up to:
235/40/18
245/40/18
245/35/18
Though if noise is your primary concern, I think wider is not the answer as it will make more noise not less. But you do have an 8.5 inch wheel... why not use that width?
Looking up your current tire: FM901 It looks like noise is a common complaint from people that have that tire.
You were asking about the Michelin PS2 Tirerack does not have any feedback about the noise of that tire other than: "On coarser concrete and asphalt surfaces, the Pilot Sport PS2 generated some additional tread noise, although our team did not find ride comfort and noise levels to be objectionable."
If you can afford the PS2, go for it it looks like a great tire... other than that I would say that the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3, Bridgestone S-03, or the Bridgestone RE750, and the Dunlop SP sport 9000 might be a decent choices also with noise consideration the primary factor in a high/max performance tire.
P.s. I would go with 245/35/18 if your offset is close to stock offset. Also, It looks like 245/35/18 is closer to the stock circumfrance than 235/40/18. Use that width!

Toyo Proxes FZ4. i have a set of these in a 215 40 17 and they're quiet. going with a 235 35 18 soon though. they have about 2k miles on em with 17x7 eagle 160's. any interest?
I can vouch for the fact that the Goodyear Eagle F1s are very quiet tires; German-made, they feel like riding on Teutonic velvet.
However, the HUGE GROOVES in the tires do pick up small rocks/gravel on occasion! Then they go CLICKCLICKCLICKCLICKCLICK... until you stop and pry the gravel out.
