Falken Azenis ST-115 vs. Xiex ZE-512
Falken Azenis ST-115 vs. Xiex ZE-512
I'm split over Falken Azenis ST-115 and the Falken Xiex ZE-512.
I've heard the Azenis has a bad rep in the rain but some here claim that its not the ST-115 rather the Sport or FK-451.
Anyone here have first hand experience with either the Xiex 512 or Azenis 115 with respect to dry and wet grip/handling and treadlife.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Just an aside, but I've been told that the Azenis Sport, not the ST115, is the lousy one in the rain.
The Ziex ZE512 is the most "pedestrian" of the choices, but it seems that many people are happy with them. The FK451 (the "luxury-sporty model") is probably what I'm going to put on as my next set of tires; either that, or the ST115's, the sportiest of the bunch (but the least comfortable and least durable IIRC).
None of this first-hand experience, just what I've culled from my research and hearsay. Hope it helps a bit.

The st115 azenis is better than the ziex any day. I had the ziex on my Legacy and while they were good for that they are not ideally suited to the WRX. When I decided to get rid of the stock tires on my WRX I called up my friend at Falken Tires who recommended the ST-115 over the 451? azenis. The ST-115 has better tread wear and for daily driving the grip is just as good. The ST-115 is also good for those twisty tarmac roads that we WRX owners come across, although not often enough. I like the ST-115, very quite, good value and they stick to the road really well.
Hey Clint,
I've been driving on the ST-115s for 5 months (about 5000 miles) now. 225/45/17s. They have exellent handling capabilities in the dry and wet. I sometimes throw the car hard into on-ramps and the tires don't make a peep. The rain grooves really work. No pulling from the wheel when puddles are hit at high speed, and no hydroplanning at sane highway speeds. Oh, and yes, they are very quiet. Can't speak for the high treadware rating yet, but they still look new.
For reference, on my last Subie (2.5RS) I ran the Yokohama ES100s. They were a fine tire but the ST-115s are better in every way and at a lower price. I don't know how they do it, but I like it.
I got mine from Discount Tire Direct.
Good luck in your search.

Thanks for the 411, man. I was at America's Tire this weekend(which is now owned by discount tire) gettting a quote on the ST-115s.
Just curious, did you get the warranty?
Hey Clint,
I opted out of the road hazard warranty on this purchase. No particular reason. I have purchased tire warranties in the past. I guess my thought was that if one tire needed replacing at 10,000 miles (or greater) into the life of the tires, they all need to be replaced (thanks to AWD). So the one tire is covered, and I still need to buy 3. Take the cost of the one tire $103.00 minus the $50 for the warranty, I've only "saved" $53.00 over the lifespan of the warranty. This, of course, is only one possible scenario. But one that I think is most likely to occcur.
Nic3, It's hard to say how many miles you can expect, I don't think this tire has been around long enough for buyers to try and rack up 40,000+ miles. Treadware rating is really for manufactuers to show how long a tire will last within their own brand's line.

Hey, get the Azenis Sports! I had a set on my Infiniti G20 and I couldn't believe the traction that they have. I live in Michigan and the weather is generaly bad. I never had a problem with my Sports in the rain. In fact, they did better in the wet than the stock tires that were on the car. Also, the tread wear was nil, granted I only put about 3000 miles on the tire (Had a rather nasty accident related to my own mistake, not the tires). Overall, I really liked the tire, the only down side that I found was that they did make some tire noise, but it was no where near as loud as my Yoko snow tire that I had. Anyway thats that and let the G20 rest in peace.

Hi Nic3,
One way to calculate a ball park milage figure (and this is in theory only). Is to find out how many miles people are getting out of the Z rated Azenis Sports. Lots of people here have them. They have a treadwear rating of 200. The ST-115s have a treadwear rating of 360. So take an average number of Azenis milage reports (ex. 25,000 miles) and multiply by 1.8. Of course driving habits can vary the life of a tire greatly.
