Is buying tires on ebay safe?

There are some vendors with nice tires, like Falken, Toyo, etc etc. The only difference in pricing is the free shipping really. My question is are they any less quality because they're on ebay?

I stay clear of most ebay stuff but this seems like a good deal if it's legit. Anyone have any experience with buying tires off ebay?

Thanks!

In all honesty, I'm not sure. however your best bet would be to go talk to the vendor and ask them about any possible issue and what they would do about it. Obviously if it was a nail, improper mounting, etc then they probably can't do ****. but if something went wrong for no apparent reason then they should definitely cover you.

As long as it still has those little fibers/hairs sticking out, they haven't been used. Tires do have a sort of "best by" date before the rubber hardens from age, IIRC. however, I don't remember where the date code is.

Make sure you read the DOT number and make sure they arent years old but still "new". Sears was selling "new" tires but they were 5 years old and blowing out on people. Looks like DOT (XXXX) First 2 numbers are the week and the second 2 are the year.. (1511) That would be the fifteenth week of the year 2011. Hope you get a good deal on some sweet tires!

I bought 2 sets off Ebay, Toyo Proxes 4 and Nitto NeoGen.
I was very happy with the purchase and if I need to buy again, I'll buy them off Ebay. You can't beat their prices, just check feedbacks and make sure customers were happy with the product
