auto X tires

I need some new tires soon. I currently have Kumho MX. Don't really like them, really did feel like it gave any grip at events. Looking at the Kumho ASX, SPT and
Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S. I like the Pirelli for the treadwear but has anyone used them yet?

Thanks

Kevin

i dont think any of those are really good auto-x tires. if youre looking for something cheap, go check out the hankook rs z212's. theyre pretty sticky for the price.

the mx is a summer tire. asx and m+s are all season tires, which are not going to have nearly as much grip as the mx. i second the suggestion for the Hankook RS-2 z212 tires. i am currently running them, and people seem to be liking them for autoX. they are inexpensive so why not give them a shot.

the PZero Nero M+S is a great all season tire, but once you get them too hot, they are pretty much ****. You have to wait for them to wear down to the unburnt rubber before they get grippy again.

But for snow and rain, awesome tire, but they should not be driven hard in hot weather, only when it is cold out.

I thought they did pretty well the few times I drove through an iced parking lot, of course blizack tires would do better, but..

A buddy of mine does auto-x in his 92 civic hatchback si (sts..? not sure). He raves about the Falken Azenies and shaved Kuhmo Ecstas (shaved by tirerack). kuhmos are better for flat hot surfaces, and the azenis are better on bumpy courses, also the falkens are heavier and last longer. AFAIK hes in first place right now. Ive never auto-x'ed before, this is just what ive heard.

i hear the mx takes heat better than azenis, which you should spray with water to cool down.

How long would you expect Azeni's to last on a daily driver?? Or is there a better option for a car that is driven everyday but maybe autox's once a month??

im going to have to say he's right... here's what i posted earlier....

alright, i put them on yesterday on an 05 STi with Rota torques 17x8's and STi pink springs. The tires are 245/45/17 and seem a little bigger the normal 245/45 but it's ok. i was worried about them rubbing but i beat the hell out of them yesterday and today and nada.. no rubbing!!! Ok for the tire itself, cold (as with most tires) they tend to be a little bit slippery but once they heat up (which is pretty quick) it seems very nice. there tends to be a little hint of understeer right now (hotchiks comp sway set F/R) and the sways might need to be adjusted as well as the tire pressure. im running 34F and 30R after today and i'll let you know if that helped any but over all there seems to be lots of grip both on and off the go pedal. I did hear them squeal a little in a couple of tight turns but for the most part it seems to make you wana push the car even more.. i would say go for it. im not sure how they will fare in autoX but i think it's safe to say they rock for the price.!!!!

If those are your cold pressures you will most deffinitely understeer and plow through turns.

Bump it up to 36/34 cold, then try 38/36 for auto-x or hard driving.
