About To Install Tires But..

I am about to buy + install a set of the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires in 225/50/16 for $500 which I think is pretty good..BUT I just talked with Kenric over at Bozz Performance and he told me this tire gives people lots of problems w/ leaking air, bubbling sidewall, etc...

what's the problem with these tires??? I have only read positive things about them yet he almost made me feel regretfull for ordering these to get them put on this saturday...please fill me in on why these are 'not recommended'

thanks

I heard good things about the eagles till my mechanic told me they have soft sidewalls. Im not sure about the leaking air but i'd say for the money you could do better. the Potenza RE050A's will run you about $80 a tire on tirerack.com and are good comparable tires to the goodyears if not better. I just threw a set of Potenza RE01's on my 04'wrx and WOW what a tire! If your willing to spend more money the 01's are amazing, but the 050a's are exceptional as well and much cheaper.

Did you buy them or not? If you have to use the F1's just stay away from the track and you should be fine.

yea i bought the f1's

the sidewalls were stiffer than i expected maybe it has to do with the speed rating??

but yea i never track or auto-x my car its all city and highway driving

plus..i got them for about $100/tire which i think is a pretty good deal

all 4 bought + mounted + balance for $500

so im happy with them so far

Bubbling sidewall is usually caused by the tire hitting something (like running the tire into the curb or a deep pothole). This causes the tire to break the belt/cord area of the tire and that is where the bubble occurs.

my friend had all four of his F1s bubble on his R32. One of them finally blew on our way to indiana for the Formula 1 race. They might of fixed the problem with the newer ones but in my opinion these tires are crap.

I got the $80 potenza re050a's off tirerack and I'm enjoying them....they have a VERY stiff sidewall too.....my buddy's small 76 shop couldnt even get them put on :rotfl:

anyways, got the tires for less than $400 with the road hazard protection and shipping, and installed for $69.95
