225/50/16's?

I have a 2001 Impreza 2.5RS coupe with stock wheels . . . can I use 225/50/16's on my car?
Any advice would be appreciated . . . thanks!

Also, does anyone know if I can fit 17x8 wheels on my car?
Thanks for your help!

225/50s

You should be able to use the 225/50s with no problem. I could go show you the calculation but the short answer is that the diameter of that wheel/tire setup is only 1/2 of one millimeter less than the stock setup.

So, your odometer reading will be off by about 8 miles for every 10,000 miles you drive.

I bet the odo error is quite a bit worse than that from the factory with the OEM tires and rims, but like he said- this won't change it much at all.

225/50R16 will fit except for Potenze S03s and Kumho MXs. Before you buy tires, go to tirerack.com and check the actual tread width in the specs listing to see what they are.

17x8s will fit, but since you can run 225s on 17x7.5 or even 17x7, it's kinda pointless.

Yeah, check tire tread width, some tires are run super wide.

17x8 is pointless, however, 16x8 would be neat, cause you would have lightweight, and quick shifts.

225-50-16 is a good size, and will fit. what is your suspension setup?

not exactly sure how much the rs differs from the wrx but my wrx had 225/50/16 with perrin springs and they ran fine, then i switched to 225/50/16 s-03s and it now rubs in the right rear. i am guessing that without the flared fenders that it will rub if you lower your car at all

The RS has 3-5mm less fender clearance than the WRX in the rear. True 225/50 will fit, but could rub depending on your camber/toe settings. Your suspension setup matters too, but not too much. My car has 40mm inverted struts and I don't get contact with the strut bodies AFAIK.

Thank you all for your advice . . . I'm still not sure if I should still go for the 225/50/16's.
I have the Prodrive P1 suspension setup which supposedly lowers my car 3/4". I was thinking of getting Yokohama AVS db S2's . . . what do you think?

I have the Prodrive World Rally Sports on my RS, and phsyically they are nearly identical to the P1. If you run 17x7.5 wheels, +48mm ofset, you won't be able to run 225 S03s, or even 215 S03s, without running a lot of camber. (I have -2.5 degrees rear.) 225s from other tires may fit however, and yo can always remove the fender liner and roll them to make more room.

I removed the plastic rubber liner and on my 17x7.5 rotas i have 215-45-17 Kuhmo MXs, and they rubb on the outside when i corner VERY HARD... and only then. I will getting the little fender lip rolled up a little and i will then have no problems. I have stock camber in the rear, about -1.25 Deg.

Yep. But WRXs have much more clearance in those areas due to more space within the wheel wells.
