215 or 225 TIRE SIZE

Hello everyone,

I now have to replace my 225-45-17 continental extreme contacts

they are allwheather rated with 400 threadwear

great tires, somewhat softer and adds to body-roll but great in snow, kinda sucks in the summer time...

MY QUESTION IS:

Should I go with 215s or 225s

My 03 wrx only has a 3" catless Turbo Back, intake and BOV. so im not pushing anything more than 260 at the crank.

I have sti r/a spec transmission. 5spd

I felt that 225s are harder on the tranny and grip too much sometimes, while 215s are more fun.

oh and they are going on 17" OZ P1

Im overthinking! please help

If your rims are 17 x 8, then stick with 225/45/17.
You can get a good visual on size differences here.

215 better gearing (shorter). 225 better grip. just depends on what youre looking for. also, oz p1 are 17x7 so 215 may fit on the rim better and have less body roll than 225 on the same rim. 215 cut through snow better. 225 fill wheel well better and you are more planted with the wider footprint. if your rim width is 7 i would say 215. but if you want ultimate dry grip go 225

I got 215s they are great!

sometimes I feel sketchy going fast, but it feels good.

My wrx running at the stock ECU map, so 215s give me enough grip to have some powersteering, drifting fun. I remember drifting entire exit ramps with the stock 205s. those days were great! There was one in Boston, an exit that puts you in the city just after Copley place if traveling from south, man that went around almost 720!

I drove through the snowstorm from Boston to Philly at the end of Thanksgiving. I was going 40-60 on the highway. It was so much fun! driving around town was better though. Not to mention the thanksgiving empty school parking lots!!!

great tires.
