Totally agree, IMO 18s just don't look right, but its personal preference, also 18s are harsher, and I don't think they do much performance wise

I also prefer 17's over 18's especially if you are not going to lower the car. 17's are lighter and from what I've read 18's offer no more performance than a 17. I have seen 18's on a lowerd WRX and I thought they looked great but I have never seen them on a WRX at stock heigt.

Installing 17" rims with 225/45/17 so3's was the best single thing I have done to my car. If you are wanting to improve your cars handeling and dont mind a little rougher ride I would say go for it but make sure you get some good sticky tires.

It's all personal preference when it comes to looks. I like the look of an 18 on a car that is lowerd but not on a car at stock height but then again you may have a different opinion. From what I've read the only way you would be better off performance wise with an 18" rim is if you went with an extremely large break kit like they use on the WRC cars for tarmac rallies. The bigger the wheel is the more they weigh, I think that is why a 17 is the way to go and no pic will prove or disprove that. If you like the look of an 18 and dont mind sacrificeing performance buy 18" rims. Who cares what other people think since they arent the ones driveing and paying for your car, you are.

By the way 18' wheels do offer some performance gain over the 17's, you cna use a smaller diameter tire which definetly reduces the tire sidewall rolling over, a definite plus on the track... also it may make the car look short and stubby because it is not lowerd, if you were to get lowering springs it would take care of the wheel gap, i have seen an STI with 19in superleggaras and it looked bad ***, it was lowerd on some STI pinks...

anyways, the choice is up to you, but 18's do offer more performance in a way, but do tend to hurt the pocket book a lil more when it comes time to buy tires...

My 2cents

17 and 19!!!

For some crazy reason 17 and 19 have always looked good on all cars. HOEVER the bastard step child, the 18 inch wheel, has always looked like terrible to me. Its the opposite of not to big, not to small. With 18's its a little to big, but not big enough. like they have no class.

One does look good every blue moon, but its rare.
