Not here to disappoint you, but Sorry no WRX transformer!
Steve Spielberg and Michael Bay do not make top notch movies. As much as I love transformers i smell a big flop. They all look like organic robots rather than actual transformers and Bumble Bee is a CAMARO!! $#%#$% because VW wouldn't sign off on the rights...=(. The action sequences may be worth it though. And I dunno about Megatron being a Tank.

I would agree that Michael Bay's movies have been glitzy and over the top (Rock, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor) - although I did enjoy the Island - but Steven Spielberg is indeed a top notch producer. And I doubt any of the movies on the list could be regarded as flops - I may not have loved every single one of them, but they were all successful movies.
As a member of the YTMND community, it's an upset that the phrase "Do a barrel roll!" was not selected for the make Optimus speak contest. I'm a big Transformers fan, but I think this movie will flop. The Transformers don't resemble the original characters at all and if there isn't any of the original transforming sound effects, I wouldn't enjoy the movie as much.

You think it will flop because the characters don't look or sound like the original TV cartoon. I would venture to guess many die hard transformer fans might agree with you.
However, the movie industry would think otherwise. An accurate remake as you suggest might only appeal to hardcore fans and possibly younger kids. But a spiced up, action packed, updated remake will appeal to a much wider audience.
That is the way of things. Sometimes it results in a really good film, but many times the results are poor at best.
I grew up watching the transformers in the 1980's, but I welcome this new interpretation - it should be interesting, and if done right, very entertaining. I just have to go to the theater without any preconceived notions and with an open mind (hard to do, but I'll try).
And if nothing else, your old transformers toys will increase in value.
