You left off the FQ400, which has 400bhp.
Looks like someone can't read.

I serriously think that just tires wouldnt make up that big of a diffrence.
The reason they test the cars on the road corse and not on a rally corse is because thats where they will be drivin on the road. I think the test was fare and very accurate to what i have seen. Subarus handel like crap. Now i wish they would have given a budget of $300 for each side for suspension upgrades... After that I would put my money on the sti.

^ If you think about it; Subaru's heavy understeer just means it has more in common with its WRC counter-part than the Lan-Evo does. Theoretically understeer would be preferable to oversteer, because the terrain will naturally cause the car to slide around.

on the WR1 it doesn't use the re070's, it's on 18" and i believe they were pirellis
the evo is still on the same sticky yoko's.

you use WR1 as the performance benchmark?? Even Spec C uses RE70s which are one of the best summer tires you can get. Best OEM tires are on the S203, they're Pirelli R compounds.

amen to that. im tired of the evo winning all the time on top gear. The evo might still win. but at least the gap between the two wont be so substancial. And also the driver needs to realize that the STi doesnt have human error correcting steering like the evo. means he actually has to drive it. :wiggle:

i was talking about the WR1 used in the top gear video
if the FQ320 was to fare against a Spec C, i'm sure the results would have been much better for the impreza. but in this case it's all EDM models...

thats all well and good but it seems to me the last time i drove to work I didnt have a copilot...
street cars are designed with a certent amount of understeer not because they are rally cars but because the us dot has stated that the typicall driver (the morons that ruen it for every one) can deal with an understeer condition alot more safely than an oversteer condition....
why subarus have so much more than any other car.... I have no clue... I suspect it is a way to prolong the life of the drive train but im not sure.
flat out the evo does better on the track in the 'out of the box' trim and to alot of drivers... thats all that matters to them.. what some tv show is showing them..

as far as what one is better overall.... I dont know .... I've never owned or driven an sti or an evo.. but if the sti suspension is any thing like the rs (and it seems they are) I could see how some one that dosent know about suspension would love the evo compaired to the sti.

^ But using the same rationale, do you travel to work maintaining speeds in excess of 160 km/h (100 mph)? Sure, a lot of race cars are toned down from their racing counter-parts in order to be made available to people with a fraction of a racer's skill, but their performance heritage remains. Subaru is more of a niche manufacturer than Mitsubishi; while Mitsubishi's vehicles have various features and layouts, Subaru has remained loyal to their off-road heritage, thus their boxer engine and AWD combination is common throughout the entire line. The way I see it, Mitsubishi made a street car based on a rally car, and Subaru made a rally car which adapts to the street. There's my $0.02

As much as i would like to put a positive spin on the subarus handeling... I just cant agree with you here.
what automotive engineer would take a suspension set up from an off road car and put street tires on it and call it a day?... No, its quite diffrent. It would be unsafe for the avrage driver and the tire wear alone would be astounding... If an engineer takes the time to change a suspesion they are going to model it after successfull handeling properties for the road condition within certent guidelines.Im not sure that subaru made these cars off of a rally car, but rather the subaru was modified to be the rally car we know.. what came first the chicken or the egg... there is no doubt that they did take features and ideas from the rally cars to make the next genneration but there is no way the understeer is because it worked well in rally.. or else we would have quick change clutches.
