Spectators know the risk, and people are stupid enough to stand on the outside of a hairpin where drivers can easily overcook the corner and go wide, especially when the tarmac looks wet, and there's snow. IMHO, the spectators shouldn't even be there in the first place. The driver was doing what he's paid to do, get the quickest time possible where every 1/10 of a second counts, and getting out and helping spectators would probably get the whole team pissed off at him. The driver wouldn't have been able to do anything except wait there for an ambulance or helicoptor to come.

I'm sure there's plenty of paramedic teams around each stage of a rally for accidents, either like this, or if a car goes off. A few stages were cancelled last WRC season because paramedics didn't want to take a chance because of how bad the road conditions were.

Exactly.

the spectators are morons for standing there.

Anyone who thinks this is outrageous on the drivers part doesn't watch WRC or any rally sport.

In America, those spectators would never have been allowed to stand outside that DOWNHILL hairpin. That way, all the stupid people don't Darwin themselves away like that. However, from the sound of the language, it doesn't look like this is America, so stupid people are allowed to Darwin themselves.

There is an assumption of risk when they are standing there watching a rally by a hairpin turn. Even if they could sue the driver, they would never win.

I marshalled at the WRC in Wales in 2005 and we were told to keep spectators away from the outside curve of corners so that they wouldn't get injured or worse if a car went off course.
