Time to start some controversy
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...59&q=muay+thai

Keep in mind that I do Muay Thai myself, and I'll keep my thoughts on this video to myself for a bit

im really not to familiar with taekwondo but it seems like kicks are their prefered way of striking. i like muay thai better...... knees, kicks, elbows and thai clinch what more can you ask for? maybe i need to look into taekwondo a bit more.

I know that a few i-clubber's a actually quite schooled about various martial arts but still wanted to chime in a few bits.

1. Chuck Liddell has original background in a karate derivative (for oversimplification I suppose most people lump all striking styles of Japanese origin under the term "karate" so o well). Chuck beat Vitor Belfort, who KO'd Silva in the first round. Chuck beat Ortiz, who owned Shamrock. Go figure. By now I think most educated people recognize the merits of the individual fighter and NOT the style, but just thought I'd throw out that bit.

2. TKD is the biggest WTF (no pun intended) in the TMA world. I think 99.99 percent of everyone out there uses TKD is an umbrella term for a striking style of Korean origin, but what they MEAN to say is a striking style of WTF or ITF origin. This is a big difference, the same as lumping all combat systems of Chinese origin as "kung fu".

As per my above post, depends. Some of the korean styles that trace lineage to before the second half of the 20th century are heavy in elbows, knees, what have you. I used to train in "taekwondo" school that used a JKD stance, boxing punches, Muay Thai roundhouses, go figure!

There's a thread in the BAIC section of this forum that links to a Silva video. In it there's a guy who goes for a shoot but Silva just nails him in the head with a knee/kick. Awesome stuff.
