I doubt he was trying to drift that corner... looks like he just turned the wheel a little too quickly and his tires couldn't handle it... or he was just going too fast for the corner.

i absolutely believe that he could have made it through perfectly if he had stayed on the gas... it was his correction of something that did not need to be corrected that made him crash.

or lack of correction??
as the rear wheels started to grip he should have pointed the car straight again instead of holding the wheel turned...........
I would guess the driver froze and didn't realize the postion of the wheels as he was exiting the corner.....

I don't think staying on the gas would have allowed him to make it.
To me it looks like this guy gets mad sideways and is trying to steer the other way and just keeps cranking but since he is sliding he isn't going to correct yet, and then he catches and has overcorrected and boom!

Have you two ever road raced (trackday/HPDE) your Imprezas?
11/10's is too much, but even though I'm no professional racecar driver, I have frequently seen guys who have let off of the gas going through the chicane (I think it's easier to sense a loss of traction through a sweeper) lose control. They came back to the pits and everytime stated how they felt that they had traction but felt that they were going in too fast so they let off and then the tail started to slide out. Sometimes they got back on the gas and regained control, however there were a couple of fender benders (with the wall) and only one moderate crash.
Like I said, I don't mean to sound like I'm questioning your experience, but the statements seem pretty contrary to my own.

Well it's obvious that you need to use the gas pull out of it with awd, however that wasn't his problem, just letting of the gas didn't make him crash, his poor job correcting the slide did. The fact of the matter is he was aiming the wheel the wrong way when he regained traction. Although i have a new 05 sti, i did get my wrx sideways at 95mph's from let off into a turn. I'm not diagreeing gas is needed to correct this just saying simply using the gas would not have saved him.

aight this is how it is. he went into a slide and the rear end came out. he completely locked the wheels left and then the awd caught traction and the wheels were pointing left. at that point the car was shot left into the grass where he lost traction again. the he slid into the wall
