I have a '98 outback that needs its clutch replaced, and I don't know where to go to have it done. I've searched the forums, and I see a lot of people say rallispec and performance tuning... rallispec would be great, but when I called them they estimated an 8-10 week wait! I haven't called performance tuning yet, but they're pretty far away.

The mechanic my family has used for years is good, but expensive, and he's unwilling to install a part that I supply. I'm interested in having a heavier clutch installed this time around, and his price just isn't competitive. Anyone have recommendations that aren't two hours from the city?

Turbotrix in Edison or Precision Tuning in Brick, both NJ. Google them first to see how you're feeling it before you decide. I'm from NY, can't rec my mech to you cuz of distance. I don't know these people but from a few tri-staters who frequent the boards, you get an idea who they go to.

 

I got a guy in east stroudsburg (like 10 min from the delaware watergap in PA off rt 80), hes a tech for a subaru dealership that has his own shop on the side. like an hr-hr 1/2 depending on how you drive. Ive done it in 45 min. hes good and fair. you can give him a call . his name is Ken. 570-241-1866. He did all the work on my car, engine swap, port and polish, cams, completely r&r'd my engine and rebuilt my trans when I broke it, we even built a custom turbo kit for my 98 impreza. He knows his stuff.
