Would you go overseas for surgery?

While it's true that other countries are trying stem cell therapies, the results so far are very sketchy (according to the published clinical trials from abroad). I would love to see the US allow more stem cell research, because it is NOT at the point that it can really be applied to treatments yet. The statistics on one stem cell implantation study in China showed that the treatment made patients worse more often than better...
it's an aside, but I'd wait a while before considering any stem cell therapy. We'll all hear about it when it starts working well, it'll be headline news.

I've had army doctors work on me, so an Indonesian doesn't seem that bad.

I had a very good PA that did my surgery on my spider bites with very real world experience in Mogidishu and Panama as a Special Forces Medic (SFOD-D). He knew his stuff as well as any MD.

I can't remember... are you prior service or a brat? You're ex-navy, right?
Hit or miss may be true. But let me tell you... as the brother of a mentally ill child with a series of medical problems for the last 15yrs, Kaiser is awful. And yes, i've been to most every Kaiser in the greater Sacramento area with him. My father once got so fed-up that he took his bedpan and chucked it into the aisle of the ICU after his third surgery for staph... an infection the doctors introduced into his system more than once.
That being said I'd say most hospitals in the USA are hit or miss. I have UC Davis and it's a hit.
In my area it's about 50/50. I know my local hospitals. Kaiser in Roseville isn't too bad. Methodist sucks. UC Davis is good and so is Mercy. Sutter isn't bad either.
