MORON... Do you even know Bush's stance on it? He's just not footing the bill or approving additional stem cell lines at this time. The science hasn't even been proven. The whole thing is a red herring anyway.

Umm before i answer the others. I will answer HellaDumb...since he unlike the others is being a dick when people disagree with him. So mr. i know everything about stem research do you even know what it is? You say it hasn't been proven yet all these researchers are working on it. Yeah you know more than them it will never produce any valuable research. MORON i worked with cell lines and guess what new lines cause different things to show up and are healthier than older ones.

Fundamentalist Christians are whacky because it doesn't matter what proof that you show them they will stick to their guns and never change their minds. Oh and tend to hate others. Fundamentalist are the givers of bad names to almost all religions.

Don't call other people morons when you, yourself lack insight and knowledge. Now off to lunch...

I'll ignore the personal attack and address the actual content of your statement. Under the current law as I understand it, the only research that is being allowed is with the use of cells that existed before the legislation was enacted. This curtails the research of privately funded groups as well as government funded ones. I never said that the government should pay for the research, although I don't think it's a bad idea (as long as they don't get carried away). As far as the red herring. . . I'd like to see some proof of this statement, if you can adequately back up your statement without (I repeat without making personal attacks and do so in a mature and reasonable manner) then I would be happy to renounce stem cell research. My take on it is: responsible research (ie: growing spleens, hearts, lungs, not whole humans) with accountability. I just have a hard time knowing that maybe my grandmother would've seen me graduate had we further explored this particular field.

edit: you said yourself that the science hasn't been proven, if we didn't research unproven science, then we'd still be living in caves.

I call BS. I guess you don't like when people say it like it is.
How 'bout you explain Bush's stance for everyone?

Look, I just think it's a waste of time to pin it on Bush. You are basically saying that the U.S. has cornered the scientific market, which is B.S.

As far as my tiny little mind knows, Bush has resisted stem cell research based on the destruction of embryos, and I'm glad that his morals don't waiver based on public opinion. Science has always proven a way to deal with such constraints... don't you think? If not, let another country waste billions on the science and then have Kerry hand it out to 3rd world countries for free.

I probably have a higher stake in it that all of you. My dad has parkinsons/ dimentia... call it what you want... I'd love a cure for it, but I support "moral" science.

I'd love your comments on this.

^^ Wow. I (mostly) agree with you!

While I am all in favor of advancing science, I think that it gets very dangerous when we start messing around with embryos, cloning, etc... But I concede that I know next to nothing about this field and am basing these thoughts on my own sense of moral discernment

hmm this is turning into a pissing match. But ok want me to back up with what i said with scientific information.

http://stemcells.nih.gov/info/ethics.asp states the basic's of how stem cells lines are basically started. "Research on one kind of stem cell—human embryonic stem cells—has generated much interest and public debate. Pluripotent stem cells (cells that can develop into many different cell types of the body) are isolated from human embryos that are a few days old. Pluripotent stem cell lines have also been developed from fetal tissue (older than 8 weeks of development)." So you have two basic forms of getting stem cells from the fetus. Notice not baby or child. Fetus a stage in the formation of a child. This is the point where people disagree on. When is a child really alive? A good read to understanding this, since I believe you could be christian is, http://www.isscr.org/public/ethics.htm . It gives both sides of the debate and up to you to decide after that. For those that are to lazy to click on that and read here is a point that I think is of value. "More particularly, embryonic stem cell research and therapy would use donated embryos that, by virtue of donor instructions, will never enter a uterus." So these are embryo's that have been basically aborted. They will never come to full term. So why not use them for the advancment of science than throwing them away? I hope that clarifies some of your misunderstandings of stem cell research.

"Look, I just think it's a waste of time to pin it on Bush. You are basically saying that the U.S. has cornered the scientific market, which is B.S. "

I will pin on Jr. because he wants to slow the US progression in a viable field of study. We are the leading nation in the world, why would we hamper ourseleves from learning and exploring areas of science that will not only be a benfit fancially to us but improve our standard of living. We need around 1000 lines for us to fully understand how stem cells work. He just put a HUGE block on the advancment of that field. What a lot of people fail to grasp is that government funding is needed to build intrest and show results before private companys will help in the funding. So these companys are going to go else where.

Science should be advanced but not at all cost. But when their is no harm being done by keeping on with a certain field of study then I don't see why walls should be brought up to stop it.

One last thing what the hell does kerry have to do with this? Oh yeah thats right he is going to give away livers made by us to africa. Do you have any idea how far away we are from that? You say I should back it up. Well back yourself up now. Oh and love when people say it like it is. Just when they are right and not wrong.

it's like SRIC, can't stay on topic. . . I was gonna laugh at the ppl that thought Iraq had now WMD's and then confirm that I went to greece in '99. instead of Africa because of how unsafe it was there for Americans.
