So who is headed to LA, MS, and AL to give aid?

Holy tish...have you seen the footage of the looting that's going on?!
Every looter that was shown was a young black male.
But it's safe to assume that since I was watching Fox, it was all just part of the Vast Right Wing's perpetuation of negative stereotypes.

You can finally use your right to complain for some good.
Write a letter to your favorite Socialist country & ask that they contribute some of their citizen's tax dollars/francs/dinars to help us.

During other disasters outside the US, liberals (and others too, but for the sake of a reply to your inflamatory post) used our 'right to complain' to try to compel people in OUR COUNTRY to help others out. We have to hope that there are like-minded individuals in other countrys who are now pissing off the foreign equivalents of you (by being 'complaining liberals') to give the US some relief money/aid.
More importantly, you (yes you, all on your own, without help from any 'socialist un-American' or conservative) turned a natural disaster into a partisan issue. Not only that, but your post only contains stereotyped accusations and snide elitism. Shame on you, b****

Partisan!?
Like the French Resistance?
Viva Le Maque!
WTF are you talking about? I never mentioned Dems or GOPs.
All I asked was why is it that the same people, who mere months ago were belly aching about how the US gov't and her citizens weren't doing enough to aid victims of a tsunami, were/are silent on how the World Community has not stepped up to the plate & offered aid.
How about you "hope for aid" in one hand and spit in the other.
The US gov't should be cashing in a few of it's favor chips to aid those citizens that need the help the most.
If that's not enough, then I have no problem in "persuading" countries that we have assisted to assist us.
If that's making something partisan, it's due to perception deception on your end.

It's impossible to have an intelligent discussion with you as of late.
You mentioned 'socialist unAmericans', a term you have used often in the past to describe the 'left' end of the American political spectrum. So you did make this a partisan issue.
You must have missed my point about how us *****ing about what OUR gov't does is one thing...us *****ing about what France's gov't does can't really do anything. We need the French (or whoever else...) citizens to ***** to their own government about giving us aid.
It's pretty damn obvious why the people who complained about the US not giving enough to the Tsunami cause are not very vocal about the rest of the world giving us aid. It's not our god damn gov't. Does that make sense to you? Noone here was complaining that Germany, France, etc didn't give enough to Tsunami aid...people complained that our gov't could have done more. People in a democracy are SUPPOSED to complain when they think something isn't right in the gov't. People in the US are NOT supposed to complain to another country's gov't when they think it is making a mistake (unless we want our gov't to 'make' another gov't do something...which you hint at...).

Found this quote interesting:
"Missing the personnel is the big thing in this particular event. We need our people."
- Lt. Andy Thaggard, a spokesman for the Mississippi National Guard, commenting on how having so many troops in Iraq is hampering relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
And thanks, Oaf, for showing your true side. I have some black friends you should meet. Or better yet, maybe not... they might loot your house.

As I'm a lonely, recently unemployed, shut in, I have a little fun here & there.
I was merely throwing silliness out to get a rise...and it worked.
Thanks for making my miserable day a tad shinier.
BTW, MVWRX, it wasn't me that made it a Partisan issue, it was good old Robby Kennedy.
He alluded that the present admin was somehow responsible for this hurricane due to the increased CO2 emmissions.
So, if he can make down right stupid comments, so can I.

PS: I'll try to elevate the intelligence of future posts.

good luck with a job, glad this thread gave you some fun
Front page of the NYTimes today (9/1/05) [to get back on topic]:
"Bush Sees Long Recovery For New Orleans; 30,000 Troops In Largest U.S. Relief Effort"
So we ARE sending troops down there. And quite a number too, might I add. The big Easy has a population of 484,674. So that's about 16 people per soldier.
I have not heard anything new on this though. Have any countries started giving/offering any assistance to the South yet?

Not sure, but why weren't we ready to send troops right at the onslaught?

As to the Looting topic...
Oaf: I know u were kidding about the FNC's only showing black people looting because of their right wing agenda. It kinda ticks me off when people say that FNC is SOOO right wing. They're really not. They're just more balanced than all the other left leaning media agents that they seem right wing.
dub2w: Watch ANY news channel. Any video of looting that you will see will be black people. Why? Well, there are a couple reasons: 1) Statistacally, there are more blacks in poverty than whites and other races. 2) It's the south, so there is an even more concentration of black people than most other parts of the nation.
Sorry, just felt like I had to clarify.

Those statements about looters are cool as long as you're eqully willing to admit that most cerial killers and white collar criminals are white...so overall, there are more white criminals than black, but more black men are in jail than white...

Listen, I turn on the news and it looks like the Source awards gone wild at New Jack City. We're not talking about white serial killers here, we're talking about the situation at hand in New Orleans. Period. No more PC "well even though there's 50,000 black looters I did see a group of 3 white looters... so isn't it safe to say that.... blah blah blah?" Stop it! Jvick is absolutely right regarding poverty and population density.
These people are very much responsible for the rescue effort. Over 1500+ police that were ONCE part of the rescue effort have been told from higher to stop the chaos downtown instead. So instead of police officers assisting people in need, they are now worried about Juvenile’s cousins hurting innocent victims downtown in order to get new stereo equipment and TV's! Before the water got too high these same people were hi-jacking people in their cars!. One cop has even been killed by a bullet to the head by one of these looters.
These very same looters that somehow have enough energy to steal full TVs in full sprint from the cops but never had enough energy to foot it out of New Orleans when the order was given to leave days in advance! People have walked across deserts with bare feet in less time!

The damage could have been prevented if the levys were up to date. But they weren't because the money to up grade them was tied up in another part of the world...
The storm would have been a very minor incident except for the levys breaking. From what I heard, NO was fine until after the storm passed...the storm weakened the levys and they broke after the fact and that's what ruined the city. I'm sure there would have been damage more similar to hurricane Andrew if the levy had been kept up.
