The sky is falling the sky is falling!!!

When you go on to read the article, it's actually a completely unbiased piece..... as long as your a conservative right winger who routinely pisses his/her pants when the word "democrat" is mentioned.

If this even makes it to the senate I'll take a bath in your toilet.

But he didn't say "You'll serve by doing 50 hours of community service per year while you're in high school."

FYI - That page has changed since noon today. The part about the first $4,000 of college education being free wasn't on that site until late this afternoon. All the other text was..

i had to do 40 hours in my senior year as a graduation requirement. not court mandated either.

i helped out with after school events and crap.

we also didn't have computers in every classroom, fancy architecture, or even functioning air conditioning when I was in high school.

it's not a bad idea really, as much as i'd rather not admit that. as for the college education, there's already a bunch of tax credits, deductions, and grants available. the government might as well get something in exchange for this.

if he came out and said that in order to qualify for welfare checks, people had to perform xx ammount of hours per month of volunteer time, i would agree with that 100%.

I don't have a problem with that. If you're a junior or senior it'd do you some good learning a work ethic. It's not like the public high school curriculum is all that grueling. God forbid they put down the xbox controller and do something constructive.

Either way it has nothing to do with socialism. Not to mention, with the conservatives view of what socialism is, this country is already socialist. But I'm sure it wasn't Republican's party's fault. The weak and incompetent democratic minority made them do it.

It's good to know that this country is going to **** and the pig headed partisans are more concerned about pointing fingers and criticizing than they are about teaming up and getting this country back on track. Like a bunch of children. Still convinced that their way of doing things is the only way.

I had to do 20 to graduate too. its no 40 but hey its better than the 5 i hear some have to do.

I did most of my highschool in Tennessee, and there was the library for computers and one in every other classroom. not like hwne i came out here and there was 5 in each class and computer "labs" and all of that.

as far as welfare checks go, my wife had a great idea. she said they should have to do x amount of hours for community service and take a drug test before each check is picked up. i mean obviously that isnt possible but tis a hell of an idea.

I guess you guys think it's OK to force people to do volunteer work when they've done nothing to warrant it. Enjoy.

the only forced volunteer work mentioned was the high school requirement, which many high schools currently have already.

the community service for college tax credits is voluntary. makes a little sense... you take a little, you give a little. and holy ****, the deal works out to $40 an hour for 4g in exchange for 100 hours.

So you're saying, because some high schools have forced kids to do community service, we should force ALL high school students to do it? If it makes you feel better, another guy agreed with you - his name was Karl Marx.

Weird. My parents provided me with my work ethic, not the government.

So don't go to school. Don't do community service. Don't graduate. Don't get a job. Don't eat fast food. Don't listen to AM radio.

No one is being forced to do anything.

Keep drinking the Marx Koolaid. No one ever had to do anything ever until 11/4/2008 when Obama forced children into labor, so he's basically pro slavery.

I see a lot of attempted rhetoric in your post, but not a lot of argument.

Becuase you're trying to make a big deal out of absolutely nothing. It's very simple:

You are not required to attend public school.
You can be home schooled.
You can go to private school.
You can simply drop out of school and not graduate at all.
No one is being forced to do anything.

Furthermore, trying to relate the addition community service into the high school curriculum to anything that had to do with Karl Marx is completely absurd. That has got to be one of the most desperate attempts to slander Obama I've read in this forum. Rush Limbaugh and Fox news must be very proud of your efforts.
