Question about anual military fatalities...
Without searching the internet and based on what you know right this instant, when do you think the most military lives were lost, under who's leadership, and for what cause between the years of 1980 until now?
Honestly, I didn't know until I got an email from a buddy of mine.

Oh, sorry...The U.S. military. 1980 because it doesn't go too far back. Any further back, say late 60's and early 70's, we'd have to include Vietnam. Besides, how many of the politically educated kids on this forum were even alive back then?

yup
I just checked it out. Looks like the estimates for Clinton's campaign were doubled....or so. I think it was snopes that said all the casualties for the Clinton period were due to accidents, minus 76.
Does anyone have a link to a listing of military campaigns by year? An unbiased link. I did some searching but everything listed had an agenda behind it.

Even 900+ of OEF/OIF fatal casualties are due to non-hostile accidents. I'd say a good 60% are IEDs and the rest are actual combat. I comb through a lot of the lists looking for old friends. Some of the stories are embarrassing for the victims and families:
How did my son/daughter go, sir? Did he/she go out fighting the fight of the brave men past?
Actually, no...
- he/she was so deprived of sleep that he/she rolled over his vehicle into a nearby ravine killing everyone inside. (A LOT of roll-over deaths)
- I'm sorry but someone forgot to clear their weapon and accidentally shot your son/daughter in the chow line.
- Your son fell off a ladder and his rifle discharged.
- A member of his unit went postal.
- Your child died of "natural causes" (whatever that may be - heat stroke, etc.)
- His/her helicopter crashed killing everyone inside.
- The people he/she was serving with had "insufficient training"
That leaves 3,600 KIA deaths since 2002. Very unfortunate for all those that lost their lives and I salute them. But it's still a drop in the pond compared to how many have rotated through since 2002/2003. Getting seriously injured or killed seems as probable as winning your local indian casino's jackpot or getting into a serious car accident.

I'm picturing you sitting at your PC, gleefully typing that post.
BTW, I guess I was lucky.
I crashed a truck, fell of a ladder, was next to a runaway M60 machine gun, had frag go off near me, was in a Blackhawk that bumped into mountain, kicked a dud 84mm Gustav HEAT round.
And you know what I did to become a "disabled" veteran?
I fell down the ****ing stairs!!

No Paul, hate to disappoint you, but I was pretty disgusted to hear about that.
While I am pretty sure you disagree with me on one point- namely that I don't think we should be there in the first place, the fact that these no-bid contracts went to the criminals at Halliburton/KBR who have a long standing record of failure to deliver their end of the deal- and in cases like this they are literally killing our troops- that really pisses me off, and I hope it would have a similar effect on you too.
