It may have been liberal's complaining........or.......people who wanted his job/didn't like him. I realize this was a community collge but there are extreme rivalries amongst people in the academic community. He had tenure, so people might have seen this as the only way to fire him, and move up in their job. Just a theory though.

You would rail for free speech if it was a professor talking about anti-immigration laws or speaking out against the Iraq war, but because it has religious undertones you take the "who cares" attitude.

I'm on the side of give the guy his job back on this one...I said that. My joke was just pointing out the fact that both sides of this incident (the prof himself and his coworkers who got him fired) are not exactly the experts on anything, especially politics or history. So when I see them essentially bickering about something like this like we do here, only with someone's job on the line, I think it's pathetic enough to be funny.
