You simply need to be Republican!

It shows no support for the troops (forget we have been deployed over there longer then the US effort in WWll!).

Bring the boys & girls home... alive. They have earned it.

Wow

The funniest part is that if the wreath was a mercedes symbol, people would be like "well, maybe see wants a mercedes for Christmas?" Even those that celebrate the holiday for religious purpose wouldn't report the wreath under the CC&Rs despite is being arguably disrespectful to the holiday.

The HOA is fining under an often never enforced CC&R that says wreaths and/or similar objects aren't allowed on a home’s exterior in that neighborhood. Doesn't surprise me as some CC&Rs are ruthless, especially those hoity-toity neighborhoods were the houses come out in a cookie-cutter design. If there isn't some type of rule like this in their CC&Rs then I imagine it would a free speech issue. The homeowner needs to set-up a fund for donations until she gets enough to keep the wreath up until Dec 26th.

For the record I HATE neighbors that enforce stupid-*** CC&Rs. My aunt is fighting her neighbor because the small shed she installed on the opposite end of the yard supposedly interferes with her neighbor’s feng shui.

Easy. My comment ~ But I bet they are pretty much one and the same ~ I don't think a primarily 'liberal' CC&R would have wasted a moment on THAT enforcement... do you?

Am I missing something... or did the world change while I slept last night?

Um...this has nothing to do with liberal/conservative.

My personal expience tells me that liberals are far more critical/judgemental/opinionated.

BTW, it's your generation that changed this country.

Paul's right. Even though I see your point NW OBS, I'm reminded of similar abominations of Michael A. Newdow, removing "God" from everything, SF's stance on things military, and other liberals (I could go on for days).

You're partially right, I would think the people making the complaints may be gung-ho on the war and support Bush to the point of jumping off a bridge with him. But in the case of the complaining families of Soldiers, the peace symbol is offensive because their angel son or daughter - who's incapable of wrong in her eyes - may not be doing the most "peaceful" thing in Iraq right now. Do you think they'd be on this wagon solely in their allegiance to Bush? No way - he’s not worth it, especially not now. It offends these families because they have taken it to the umpteen level of offensiveness when it's really just about peace in holiday and in general.

As for those that think it's a "Satanic symbol"... well, they're just wackos like Fred Phelps.

i like the claims of it being a "satanic" symbol. i'm catholic and i dont see this as an offensive wreath, how do we know its even an anti-war statement, seeing as christmas is a time of "PEACE on earth".

What I think is the worst is the president of the HOA made everyone who didn't vote with him to resign. That is just downright nuts.

Anyway, the HOA president and remaining board members have changed their phone numbers and offered an apology and backed down on the fine.
