Payback is a biiiiiiiiiaaaaaaatch!

Germany is whining over us removing our troops. They're only going to lose $150M a year!! =)

Does the Coalition Joint Civil-Military Operations Task Force (CJCMOTF) in A-Stan ring a bell?

I'm sure the left-wingers will turn this into a "Bush pulled the troops out Germany because of their lack of involvement in the OIF coalition" -or- "Bush got tired of waiting for Germany as they sat on the sidelines of OIF" blah blah blah.

This isn’t really a good thing…

I feel sorry for the business owners in Wiesbaden and Frankfurt and i'm sure the U.S. soldiers are upset about the decision as well. People re-enlist because of their experiences in Germany! My experiences (both military and civil) in Germany were absolutely wonderful and I know many others re-enlisted for Germany and the "Big Red One" to further their stay.

Although I'm sure Bush has good intentions for security, I think this will eventually affect re-enlistments for E5's and above in 2+ years...mark my words

Apparently it's been planned for a long while, but I'm getting some pleasure from their (Germany and greater Europe) whining none the less.

I was assingned to 1st MP Co, 1st Infantry Division and staioned on Conn barracks in Schweinfurt, Germany for 3 years.

I loved my time in Germany, but wouldn't go back now. Schweinfurt had like a 40% unemployment rate w/ the US bases/jobs there. I can't wait to see what it goes up to when we down-size the forces.

Although Germany gave us a little support in Afghanistan, they've shown much less support for our actions in OIF. The only unlikely way Germany would send troops to OIF is when there's 30seconds left in the 4th quarter.

I do feel sorry for those trying to make a living but also agree with Helladumb.

I love how Germany is complaining when they've hardly supported us... you don't appreciate what you have until it's gone.

uh, wasn't germany on the other side of a war against us like 60 years ago or so?

and our bases their were to provide defence for them so they wouldn't build up a massive army again....

so now we are the ones out "liberating" other countries, and they don't want to go along with that.

After we pull our defensive forces out, depressing germany's economy further, don't be surprised if Germany starts to invest a lot more in their own "defense".

And if we keep pissing off more countries like we have the last 4 years, we can look forward to more countries taking up "defensive" postures against us.

are we going to be able to get ready to take on the rest of the planet?

Way to overanalyze the entire situation.

This is a looooong overdue logistic move by the USA that was bound to happen. It'll save tons of government spending and help local economies thrive seeing how we're bringing them back to U.S. soil.

I thought democrats would be happy about this move

Too late.

Germany has already rotated a large number of troops to Iraq including a large force as we speak. My cousin's an 19D (Cavalry Scout) out of the Big Red One and he's sitting pretty with an M24 in Najaf as we speak.
