Diversity may be considered insane when you are in a CASTE SYSTEM where people are born into their social rank. I for one think the caste system is unbelievably anti-American and archaic. And because of that, all lowest and lower caste members (whatever they're called) should be afforded a chance to become whatever they can be if they work for it.

Drawing an analogy between India's system and ours only shows your own ignorance (nice try at a fox-esk spin though). Furthermore, these striking doctors should be fired and put in jail on the spot, because they are trusted by everyone to treat anyone to the fullest extent of their ablities (hypocraties would be ashamed...).

MDs treat those who are in need of treatment, regardless of their caste, prosperity, peers, pressures....if they don't, then they do NOT desearve to be regarded as doctors of medicine. Hell, the only reason MDs (used) to get paid more than most is because we trust them to do the right thing (medicinally) regardless of all other factors.

Are you for real? You must have grown up on the West coast, as there is a caste system of sorts (class system) in much of the US. There are definitely those slated to attend ivy league schools, be in secret societies, and assume the most powerful roles in the country.

It is insane how india is trying to make the lowest denominator 1/2 of the top professions... that is just insane and it won't work. Just look what's happening.
Of course, that's what they are doing in our law schools, so they're reading from the same insane course of direction.

there is a huge difference between the caste system in india and the class system that is apparent in the U.S..... you are insane just to compare the two in similarity. the caste system is nothing like the class system here and giving the "untouchables" (the lowest tier in the caste system) a chance to be in top professions is a great idea and can work. The "untouchables" are not in the lowest tier because they deserve to be there or because they lack potential hella, the caste system is based on what people do in previous lives. do you understand how unintelligent this system is? if you give them a chance at higher profesions some of them might proceed. they have never been given a chance to prove themselves and alot of them probaly have potential to succeed.

the caste sysetm is a vicious cycle that keeps people in the class that they are in, the only way for people to get out is for people to take the initiative to give the lower people the same privilegdes that the higher people get.

Maybe you don't understand the true nature of our society. Do you think affirmative action will get anyone into secret societies and into back rooms where political decisions are made? Do you think the American Dream and secret societies and heirs to billionaires are mutually exclusive?

The American Dream will offer equal opportunity to those at the bottom, but there will always be those who inherit the benefit of their ancestors' labors. Just look at the world, and show me one piece of inherited property that wasn't paid for with blood at some time.

I have to agree, there is most certainly an unpronounced caste system here. We do provide for lateral movement, yet there are many, many obsticals in the way. Example most middle class are effected indirectly by this unspoken caste system. All I have to say is AMT. Alternative Minimum Tax. The tax is specifically designed to keep you on your rung of the ladder. If you make to much they pretty much tax any additional money that you made right back out of your pocket. There are many that have much more of a chance than any of us could ever dream. I'm not complaining. That is the society we live in. It offers more chances than any other.
