My grandparents donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to the church every year and go out of their way to help those less fortunate. I have meet other Christians who preach the word of God to the unsaved with a tone as though they are talking to a barbarian. I think generalizations can quickly dilute an otherwise diverse religion, whichever it may be.
Your grandparents give hundreds of thousands of dollars a year and all you got was an STI? I'd be just a little pissed....j/k.

Republican economic strategies? OK, fine by me. Republican religous issues? NOT OK.

You say the evangelical right is not scary and only tries to help people? MY ***! My grandmother has volunteered (even at her fairly old age) for Planned Parenthood for years, and was quite high up in command a few years ago (wont disclose how high up, because then you could know who she was). For years, she acted here in Denver as one who escorted people into abortion clinics: mostly teens, as well as rape victims who wanted an abortion. THe stories she has told me are unbelievable. SHe has had people spit in their faces, threaten her and the woman who she was escorting (as well as getting threats over the phone), people threw things like bottles and signs, and terrible profanities were said.

Threats over the phone? harmless? I think not. She was called once by a man who said that if he ever saw her escort a woman (he called thm sinners) into a clinic again, he would avenge that baby's death by killing my grandmother, AND the woman who had the abortion! How can you call that harmless?

I honestly believe that if the religous right was not restrained here in some manor like it is, that the extremeism would take shape in ways not so distant from how the muslum extremists are acting right now in the middle east.

I swear I thought I was the only one here who thought this. Thank you for letting me know I'm not alone in my distrust of Christian rightists. The number one reason I do not like Bush is because he empowered this group of nutjobs.

Any religon taken to the extreme, under the right circumstances, will turn to violance to conert or kill the "infadels" or "non-believers". Christianity just hasn't done as much recently because of the political and military situation around them. Judism has a very very extreme religous right in Isreal that has planned to blow up schools, hospitals, and other palistinian things. THey even had a plot to bomb a Isreali school in Gaza, so that it would be blamed on the palistinians which would cause a war so they could wipe Muslums off the face of the earth!

This is exactly my point. All religions can turn violent simply because they provide the one thing potential murders usually don't: motive. They all deal with an after-life and rules on how to govern your present which creates an inherent danger when interpreted by a radical. Combined with a tainted dislike for a certain group it can create and unparralled malice towards another religion, race or culture.
