BTW, you know the guy on the far right of the bottom pic? Looks like he's wearing winter bottoms with a summer top. His flash is centered in the center of his forehead too. He's part of HQ, isn't he? Let me guess he's the supply or NBC guy? I would of had a field day outside of Ft. Bragg on the beret issue in 2004. Just one of my pet peeves.
It's because guys are still going by the book and keeping the cardboard backing. They need to gut that ***** and just leave the backing around the flash.

That was my last XO. 
He got fired in AFG. Not going to Ranger School probably helped my boss make that decision (I was already up in G3 by that time.)
