I can understand why they'd bomb the police station but why on earth would they bomb a mosque? Can anyone please fill me in?

I'm not 100% on this...but I'm pretty sure the reason they attacked the mosque is because it's a Shiite mosque and pretty much all of the insurgents are Sunni (and Saddam was a Sunni and had wide-spread Sunni support). They hate each other, even though they are both forms of Islam.

 

Good way to gain the support of the Islamic base They are only helping us with this.

 

I understand this but it still baffles me on why when they’d do such a thing when they worship Allah. Why even bother attacking a secondary target when there's 150,000 infidels wearing BDU's to attack?

 

Hahaha, don't get me wrong...I don't understand them either. But it's sorta like Catholics vs. Protestants in N Ireland...they're the same religion (Christian), but they hate each other to no end. The point about the secondary targets is good though...my guess is that since they don't have very consolidated leadership, the attack of the day could be whatever one of them thinks is best at the moment.

 

MVWRX beat me to it. Sunnis hate Shiites in Iraq (and elsewhere). Catholics hate Protestants in Ireland (and elsewhere).

I'm so glad the people of Iraq are better off, though.
