Immigrants, driver's licenses and security

Should immigrants -or- *cough* "undocumented workers" be allowed to have driver's licenses in our current state of vulnerability?

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...o_kcra/2323632

Immigrant groups turned up the heat on Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger Monday, marching at the state Capitol and accusing the governor of dragging his feet on a promise to support a driver's license bill for non-citizens...

..."He (Schwarzenegger) wants to try and find a solution to this, but he has very serious concerns about homeland security," said Schwarzenegger spokesman Vince Solitto...

..."In my opinion, it's not solvable. I think they shouldn't be here in the first place, and we shouldn't be giving them any form of driver's license," said Senate Republican leader Dick Ackerman....

..."They are in this country in violation of federal immigration laws. Federal law requires they be deported. It's that simple," said Sen. Tom McClintock, R-Thousand Oaks...
Last time I went to the DMV in South Sacramento you would have thought this bill was already passed. I'm surprised I didn't see wooden kiosks selling rugs and live chickens. joeking.

I can't say it any better:
They are in this country in violation of federal immigration laws. Federal law requires they be deported. It's that simple.

And to think that idiots believe the lie that "California's economy is tied to jobs that are held by illegal residents" is reason enough to issue a CDL.

Peter Camejo, Ralph Nader, and Sen. Gil Cedillo are Socialists that realize the only way to advance their defective agenda is to stack the deck with illegal votes.

I will gladly pay $5 for a head of lettuce if it means no illegals.

Paul

I really don't mind the cheap labor immigration provides but am concerned about the availability of CDL's to terrorists.

I think passing this bill would make it that much easier for terrorists to get other legal documentation illegally by default, negligence or accident.

I dont know. Go down to Alvarado in LA and you can get just about anything. This argument is almost superfluous

And when it comes to illegals... you would be paying a hella lot more than $5 a head for lettuce. Want to remodel a home? Double the cost. Car / house cleaned? Nanny? Pay $30 everytime you go out for dinner cause spoiled white kids wont wash dishes for less than $10 an hour?

If people come to this country from neighboring countries seeking a better life, and contribute to our society in multiple ways, they should by all means be allowed to stay

In this day & age when security is a major concern i'm going to have to agree with Ryan & Paul.

I'd rather pay $10 for a bag of produce, expect the Six dollar burger to live up to it's name and pay more based on the cost of work if it helps guarantee my safety and the safety of my loved ones.

It's that simple... If i can prevent a cell of terrorists from crossing the Mexican border, obtaining a CDL and building roots in U.S. Soil as illegal aliens then I say we start shipping them back ASAFP.

I'm actually pretty liberal, but in light of the current security situation, I whole heartedly agree that giving away CDL will be bad news. I don't eat much lettuce anyway. On a related note, on the news a few weeks ago I saw a story about a few congress men and women trying to make the term "illegal alien" as much of a no-no as the N word. Instead they would prefer the term "undocumented worker." That implied that not only are they not here illegally, but that infact they all work. You have got to be kidding me.

I live in an area with a very hih population of illegals. And I don't want them to have license. As has already been said... they are here illegally! HELLO?

And besides, with the current method, illegals are some of the safest drivers on the road. Generalizing here... they don't speed, they signal, they try to do everything they can NOT to draw attention or get pulled over. Make it legal for them to drive and who knows what the hell we'll be dealing with.
