and yeah, not sure why he refuses to salute or put his hand over his heart for these events. He has done it several times in the past IIRC.

I was at a sporting event last Friday and was part of maybe 10% of the people there who put their hands over their hearts. wtf.

it was headlined on drudge and the comments left behind, i was dumbfounded by the ****load of people thats talking crap just because he bowed.

if you're pissed that your president bowed to the japanese emperor, please, shoot yourself.

 

Bush trained the majority of Americans to think there there is no such thing as foreign policy and that you should treat everyone like they are an American. Especially when you're visiting their country.

Some people may want to spit in his face, I'd prefer to ask him his motivation for his actions. However, spitting in his face does seem like it'd take less effort.

 

I believe its the fact that other foreign dignitaries shake their hand and do not bow.

The Emperor is clearly bowing in that picture. Albeit not as deep a bow.
When greeting an elder, the younger person is supposed to bow deeper and longer as a sign of respect.

Not sure what the deal is with the President not placing his hand over his heart during the pledge/anthem.

 

Not putting his hand over his heart, or bowing to the Japanese priminister seem pretty tame considering what the last administration did.

 

enlighten us to what some of the horrors the last administration took part of.

 

I never understood the hand over heart thing. It's actually "Flag Code" although seems meaningless. I can understand the salute, because that has meaning outside of the pledge of allegiance, but what does holding your hand over your heart signify outside of this pledge.

With that being said, Obama should at least learn to stand at attention if he's going to stray from the pack.

As for the bowing thing, I'll chalk that up to plane not knowing any better. Maybe he didn't want the emperor to feel so short?

 

No "horrors", but I recall Bush giving an unsolicited shoulder massage to the German Chancellor and getting to first base with the Saudi King.
