Help is on its way!

http://www.nypost.com/news/nationalnews/69045.htm

May 24, 2006 -- WASHINGTON - In a surprise move yesterday, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton called for "most of the country" to return to a speed limit of 55 mph in an effort to slash fuel consumption.
"The 55-mile speed limit really does lower gas usage. And wherever it can be required, and the people will accept it, we ought to do it," Clinton said at the National Press Club.

Before sounding off on the benefits of a lower speed limit, Clinton called for a combination of tax incentives, the use of more ethanol-based fuel and a $50 billion fund for new energy research to cut the consumption of foreign oil 50 percent by 2025.

She also pushed for half of all the nation's gas stations to have ethanol pumps by 2015, and for every gas station to have them by 2025.

also seems like a less obvious way to boost up highway patrol revenue (people drive 80 because they wanna drive 80, whether its 25 over or 15 over)

It's BS!!! If you wanna drive 55mph you are free to do so. If you are concerned with saving money, go right ahead.
I, myself like to drive fast and waste money. Let me do so. Don't make an F'n law saying you must drive 55mph. What is this honestly going to do for fuel prices? Absolutely nothing... There is not a shortage of oil, we are being F'd with by OPEC.

I have to say, after just returning tonight from a roadtrip to Southern Utah, a 55mph speed limit in many parts of this country is just rediculous. In cities I can see a purpose, but in the middle of nowhere it is just going to cause problems. Hell, the current 75mph speed limit is even a bit low for some of those roads.

Hahaha...only idiots (true, real idiots) would believe that domestic drilling would alleviate ANY of our problem. Look it up, find the facts; there's not enough extractable oil in the country to support our usage for beyond ~4 years...not to mention that the oil we DO have is in a form that requires more energy (from burning middle eastern oil) than it will provide once it's extracted.

This is not a lib vs conserv issue...this is just plain DO YOU KNOW or ARE YOU WILLING TO BE LIED TO.
