Gore's mistake

Opps... From Drudge:

POWER: GORE MANSION USES 20X AVERAGE HOUSEHOLD; CONSUMPTION INCREASE AFTER 'TRUTH'
Mon Feb 26 2007 17:16:14 ET

The Tennessee Center for Policy Research, an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization committed to achieving a freer, more prosperous Tennessee through free market policy solutions, issued a press release late Monday:

Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.

Gore’s mansion, located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.

Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.

Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.

“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk to walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.

In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

Gore Responds...

2) Gore has had a consistent position of purchasing carbon offsets to offset the family’s carbon footprint — a concept the right-wing fails to understand. Gore’s office explains:

What Mr. Gore has asked is that every family calculate their carbon footprint and try to reduce it as much as possible. Once they have done so, he then advocates that they purchase offsets, as the Gore’s do, to bring their footprint down to zero.
I think this poster said it best:

"Trumpeting the amount of energy Gore’s household consumes might look like red meat to hungry cons, but if that energy is largely solar-generated, and the rest generated from green sources, then that slab of right-wing-outrage calories doesn’t look like such a nutritious meal anymore, does it? More like a fistful of right-wing-outrage Doritos."

Do you know of/realize the consquences of Solar Energy, and making Solar Panels? One of the dirtiest products made because the byproduct cannot be decomposed or used for anything else.

he doesnt use solar. He uses "green energy" it was on the news clip posted a few days ago. Solar was listed as a possible future source I believe. The energy reported to be used my Gore is made with wind and whatnot...most likely costs more for him to buy it from a supplier than your typical PG&E setup too

So green energy is from wind and other sources Gore wants for the future?

Google "green power switch"

The Tennessee Valley Authority is one of the power companies that offer Green Power Switch too.....

My electric company doesn't offer it yet.

I think the point is being missed here. His energy consumption increased. An understanding of the power grid would help a bit too. Nashville Electric serivce owns the distribution. All suppliers of energy that feed these lines are on the same grid. Each and every generating unit on that grid only has a set capacity. Regardless if Gore purchases his power from a green source, the same grid is feeding his home. Green power would be who gets his money. He would not be in effect, reducing emmissions from non-green supplier.
This is simialr to what we have here in CA. It is the basis of a deregulated market. You can purchase you power from anyone who supplies PG&E's grid. Energy is traded, bought and sold in a way to benefit the supplier.
By the looks of thing GOre is a hypocrite. What makes me laugh is he doesn't even realize it. I have no doubt that he has a passion for this save the planet thing. He's such a bafoon, it's impossible for him to see the whole picture. Don't forget the the sale of the national oil reserves to Occidental oil. Errr Hmmm.
