France Says Time to Help Iraq End Violence

It appears that France wants to invest when there's less liability too.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...iraq_france_dc

SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt (Reuters) - France told an international conference on Iraq (news - web sites) Tuesday it was time to put aside differences over the U.S.-led invasion and help the country put an end to violence.

"We all know what positions our different countries held in the period that led to the current situation developing. But today we must turn to the future. France, and Europe, are ready to do so," French Foreign Minister Michel Barnier said.

"We have a collective duty to put an end to instability in Iraq," he said in a speech prepared for delivery at the conference in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. An official English translation was obtained by Reuters.
Because you wouldn't want to lose all your interest with Iraq, right France?

If France (and Canada) wants in on OIF then we must be closer to winning this thing then I thought.

The only way to end the violence there is to remove the occupying troops.

I don't really think France is going to be able to help.

Yeah, removing the troops would end the violence, after they kill each other off completely.

Also Salty, what's wrong with helping out a nation that one wishes to trade with? A lot of people associate international trade with greed. The most important benefit of international trade is that comparative advantage allows all participants to increase their standard of living.

so be it, in my opinion.

Why waste my tax dollars and the bravest of my fellow countrymen's lives?

We got Saddam out of power, we made sure they don't have WMD's laying around, what's left should be settled amongst those with legitimate claims.

That is a retarded idea. No one wants that, EXCEPT for terrorists. Not even the other middle eastern states want that. It will become Taliban II, and soon after World War III, if we do that.

Aren't we forgetting that Iraq isn't something to be divided up?

I know that the Dubya administration is just using this as thier excuse but we're suppose to be there to free Iraq not get a piece of it.

And how dare France want to end instability I can't believe the nerve.....

France is as corrupt as mexico. The only reason they wish to help now is cause of finances.

The U.S., France and Germany need French and German companies to come back and help to help rebuild Iraq's damaged energy and oil facilities, since they made most of them.

It was only a matter of time.

This is a win-win situation for the U.S., France, and Germany.

I seriously doubt that the motive for France is to end instability.

Since "to the victors go the spoils", Iraq is something to be carved up, as it was carved out of the Ottoman Empire in 1919.
That's right, Iraq (along with most of the ME countries)was created by the West after WW1 to divide the areas oil wealth.
