The Crusades: Followed a call for help from the Roman Emperor. Religious overtones? Sure. Was it all the Church's doing? No.

WWII???? Please tell me how Christianity was the cause of world war II. Then tell me how it was the cause of colonization.

News to me. Christians have done lots of bad things. Does that mean that all the bad things those people did were done in pursuit of a religious mission?

Actually, people are responsible for some of history's greatest atrocities. And by all means, there have certainly been misguided people who claim to be doing God's work when indeed they are doing the antithesis of His will.

The Crusades
Colonization of Africa, SE Asia, The Americas & Carribean
WWII

to name a few...

Pope John Paul did atleast own up to a few of the Catholic church's screw ups.

On a personal note, it seems to me that half the time I pass a U.S. flag it's at half mast nowadays. Most of the time I never find out why, and I do watch the news regularly. Seems to me that this half-mast thing is given out like candy...
Please tell me you didn't learn this in an American public School.

Now that this has already been de-railed, is it time to bring out the carlin quote again?

Well why don't get it back on track by answering the "carlin style" question?

...it was all downhill from here... Probably not the best time/place to bring this up, but I, for one, agree.

You joke because you have no reasonable answer.

How can liberals not look like a bunch on complaining babies when only 2.3% of Indias population is Christian? Answer that.

There's people in Berkeley currently trying to change the name of Thomas Jefferson Elementary School because he was a slave owner.

What's the next abomination for the leftist front going to be, scoobsport98?

Berkeley...what a **** hole of a city...my old boss was the weapons officer on a ballistic nuke sub & he told me how he hoped that at least one of his nukes was aimed at Berkeley's City Hall.

Anyway, back to the pope.
I will not lower my flag for him.
As he, like the rest of the Vatican's leadership, detested the US, why honor him with a 1/2 staff flag?

I was never in disagreement that these 'equality-activists' are being a little petty here- But, how can you assume every liberal (leftist, hippie, dirt-lover, whatever) feels that same as the specific group that is complaining does? I'm just tired of how everything gets turned into black and white in this forum- so rather than get serious and into another logical pissing match- I opted for the humor route- sorry if you took it the wrong way.

The Pope detested the US??? I'm with you on Berkeley, but not on this one. The Pope and Vatican leadership were definitely anti-war, but where're the signs of detesting the US??

This Pope stood with the US against communism. That's good enough for me as an American.
