Jane Fonda, need I say more? (There's no taking it back, beyotch!)
She's:

Any talking head on network television who's trying to give me their 'opinion' on anything. In this case, although I'm surprisingly not as conservative as some may make me out to be, the liberals win out over the conservatives. At least conservatives have a little more class and dignity while they're spitting their bile (ala Rush), vs the usual liberal whiny-assed chiding.
In no particular order nor political affliction: Sean Hannity, Lou Dobbs, Bill O'Reilly, Chris Matthews, Shephard Smith, my two least favorite just because I don't like how they look=Greta van Susteren and Tucker Carlson. Here's a very good article that sums up my attitude about that. For what it's worth, I watch HN and actually get most of my news, which I can have sent to me already focused, via the internet.

I really don't care much for Bill Walton, even though anyone who's had 4 years of influence from the venerable John Wooden shouldn't be as despicable as he is.

I hate everyone who disapproves of Bobby Knight.

I hate Dr Phil. How is it that he can attempt to play himself off as having the most innovative approaches to child rearing ever? I'm not too fond of Oprah, but it's hard to knock the institution she's become, and honestly, even though I know I couldn't stand to be in the same room as her I can't think of a single thing she's done that's negative. It's actually my opinion that she is somehow bringing women back down to Earth to their rightful place.

I hate all adult cartoons. Well, hate is a harsh word. I hate the Simpsons and South Park and a few others which I've only lingered on for a couple of seconds. How on earth can a cartoon be on at primetime? Cartoons are for children! When I see a cartoon, I shouldn't be getting taught 'life lessons' for an adult. I should be giggling when I see the cat picks the dog's tail up and whacks him with a 2x4.

I hate OBL. I hate the ****ing fact that the guy can still broadcast taped messages via Al Jazeera. I hate Al Jazeera for being his medium. Also, last but not least on my terrorist hate list, Mr Al Zaqari and all of his little, ****brained followers. You killed my friend, dude. I won't soon be forgetting that.

I would say that I hate Michael Moore, but you know, it can be argued that he actually helped Bush Win. :tee hee:

Salty, how did you cow Olmek? Was he an interwebthug fraud?

***CLIFF NOTES VERSION***

OLMEK: My dad, like all US troops in Viet Nam, commited war crimes.
SALTY: Really? What unit was your dad in? Can you provide us with proof?
OLMEK:**** YOU!! My dad is a covert ops killer & will kill you and your family!
SALTY: Really? Can you provide any proof that your father was covert ops?
OLMEK: :crickets, crickets, crickets:

Or that's how I remember it.

I see. I-thug to the max.

Because of him, I had sent my family off to the country to stay with family and I was holed up in my bedroom, crying, clutching my .22 rifle.

You know, it really does catch my attention how internet culture sometimes has the potential to spill out into real life. I was really contemplating what a showdown with the fellow would have been all about. I gave some real thought as to how I would integrate 'combined arms' if he and I would have actually crossed paths, given that I'm no longer in Infantry land and would have to re-create my combined arms, ala the A-team.;D

You know, I DO suspect that there were some sanctioned actions not protected under 'The Law of Land Warfare' that have not only happened in Vietnam, but at least as far back as WWII and as recently as OIF.

People are strange. Anything an imagination can dream up can actually be put to action, both through misdirected good intention on the part of a delusionary, and by factions of an organization who direct folks under the mandate of 'national security', ala Robert Ludlum (a very thought-provoking fiction writer, I might add.)

The Mack Vee he was referring to was MAC-V, Military Assistance Command-Vietnam.
The United States Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV) was established on Feb. 8, 1962, as a unified command subordinate to the commander-in-chief, Pacific. MACV has the mission of assisting the Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces to maintain internal security against subversion and insurgency and to resist external aggression.
With headquarters in Saigon, MACV controls all of the United States Armed Forces in Vietnam. MACV is involved in two basic activities. Its forces constantly seek to engage the enemy in combat on the ground and territorial waters of the Republic of Vietnam, to provide assistance to the constitutional government of Vietnam in building a free society capable of defending itself.
As a note, MAC-V absorbed the duties and authority of the previous MAAG-V (Military Assistance Advisory Group.) MAC-V started out as a small task force (akin to TF Smith) with the intent over sort of playing chess with the warring factions (Communists vs. South Vietnamese and indigenous tribesmen....again, think Northern Alliance) but things just didn't play out that way.

You have to remember, we were over there, at that time, without a declaration of war. Congress chose, though, not to censure the president but in essence our activities weren't covered under any normal, martial conventions. We were trying to 'win' like our fathers and their fathers had in previous wars, but were being faced by pure insurgency versus what our doctrine encompassed. (Our military has a hard time keeping up with which decade we're in, even to this day.)

An organization where highly decorated, conventional warriors like Norman Schwartzkopf worked for. The intent is very near to a Task Force that I know of in Afghanistan (and Iraq, but I have no personal knowledge) where we supply a 'team' of American soldiers to 'advise' regular and irregular indigenous soldiers to assist us in our efforts on a like enemy.

As you know, the birth of the United States Army Special Forces occured around this time, made famous by our very own John Wayne. MACV had a special operation group as one of it's tenant units; that command was called the MAC-V SOG (Studies and Observation Group.) They were made of up USSF, Combat Controllers, Seals (? although I thought that they weren't formally organized yet...still UDT), and ....CIA, although not officially. You can read about this unofficially in Charles Beckwith's book, although I don't know if you can find it anywhere officially.

It's my understanding that there were some 'projects' started, funded, but 'unsanctioned' in Vietnam which very well could have gone rogue or could have been operating on the unofficially recognized "We will deny your existance, of course, James." One of which is the modern day Delta Force. A unit which many people know about but still to this day isn't acknowledged by the US Army nor the US Goverment...even though their creator, Beckwith, wrote a book detailing everything about them.

All I've got to say is sometimes it takes fire to fight fire, just like Barney Fife says.

But, like a few of your Special Operation friends alluded to, if anyone were involved in certain illegal activities, there is no statute of limitations. He's lying or else wants to go to jail.

All fathers want to impress their sons, even if you were cursed to have a son who's a living, pruny-looking fetus like Olmek.

No it's accurate and good info for those that are interested in SOF.

There are other units (mainly Army) that branched off of old LRRP units and other SOF units when the "S" ASI was affixed to a primary MOS (mostly 11, 13 series) instead of the 18 series in the early 80's.

Eventhough there are some instances under lock and key (maybe > 1%) during the Vietnam era and so forth, there's always a paper trail for schools. Schools like BAC and any other schools at Benning come to mind. There's always that guy you knew that was part of class 03-02 or the Blackhat you knew at 1/507th that’s a phone call away. And this is how frauds are caught. Few operations are classified and operators are not part of that classification.

EDIT: I think ST-1 was around during the MACVSOG/CCC days but am not entirely sure. Regardless, UDT's were still ubundant and part of the group.

I don't think the father even lied to Olmek in the first place... I don't even think Olmek's father served in Vietnam. I think Olmek created his father's record out of thin air (Google) in order to make a lame point seem valid and his 10cent novels flow better.

Seriously... if you're bored at work I encourage you to search Olmek's idiotic posts. What's really funny is that people bought his crap and actually thought he was the greatest mind on the planet.
