yup this is all just a symptom of the vast left-wing conspiracy using activist judges and activist grand jurys to go after good honest politicians with trumped up money laundering charges.
I predict he'll even get his chair back after his buddies on the bench clear him of all wrongdoing, he only stepped down because there's some obscure rule about the chair having to not have any indictments against them.

Y'all done jerking each other off?
Look, if the fool is guilty, throw the book at him.
But what has done?
Have you read the indictment?
You do realize that he wasn't indicted, right?
You do know that according to GOP house rules, anyone indicted/named in an indictemnt must step down until he/she is exhonorated?
And you do realize that the lead critic,Barney Frank is far from being a moral person.
Dem goooood...GOP baaaaaaad.

They are John Colyandro, former executive director of a Texas political action committee formed by DeLay, and Jim Ellis, who heads DeLay's national political committee.
The indictment stems from a plan DeLay helped set in motion in 2001 to help Republicans win control of the Texas House in the 2002 elections for the first time since Reconstruction.
The grand jury accused the men of conspiring to route corporate donations from DeLay's Texas committee to the Republican Party in Washington, then returning the money back to Texas legislative candidates. It was a scheme intended to evade a state law outlawing corporate donations going to candidates, the indictment said.
The indictment also mentioned another Republican figure,
President Bush's campaign political director Terry Nelson, though it did not charge him with any wrongdoing.
The grand jury alleged Nelson received the money — along with a list of Texas lawmakers who were to get donations — from the Texas committee while working at the
Republican National Committee. Nelson did not return calls to his office seeking comment.
DeLay and others conspired to "engage in conduct that would constitute the offense of knowingly making a political contribution in violation" of Texas law, the indictment charged. However, it did not specify how DeLay was involved."

Supposed campaign fraud within the state of Texas. It's very suspect that the county pressing charges is Travis county, a super-liberal portion of Texas that voted for Kerry by a mile. Let's just say that there's a Ben and Jerry's and Starbucks on every corner, and a lot of people are light on their feet.
I agree though. If he's guilty then he needs to be punished to the full extent of the law. But if he's innocent the liberal community will have succeeded in tossing mud at him anyways. Maybe that's what they want? We'll see what happens.
But something tells me that if you're taking action by pulling the majority leader you better have the ammo to back it up. My gut felling says he's ****ed. It's not like impeaching someone on the idea that he pushing going to Iraq on for the sole purpose of finding WMDs (because we didn't). Instead, you're talking about something that is or isn't with no gray area. I bet he's scared ****less.

I still think the campaign finance laws are such tangled webs that despite all intentions, there are holes in them that you can drive a truckload of money through.
Campaign laws vary from state to state, I'm pretty sure what they did is a really standard practice in most states, but this grand jury saw it as end-running the letter of their state campaign finance restrictions.
Even if it does wind up with a conviction, they'll be certain to appeal, and it's highly likely that they win the appeal or even have the case tossed out on appellate review- since they did run the funds through RNC that should technically take it out of the state's jurisdiction- at least under the terms of the law's they are being charged with violating as I understand them.
