Quail hunting just isn't as safe as going for other birds. I am an avid game hunter and know from experience. Pheasants typically break high & away from you and Fowl/Doves usually are well above your head or in front of you. Even turkeys fly away when they see you and are most always in front of you for the shot.

With quail you're dealing with birds that are sporadic in their flight which is usually very low to the ground. They'll pop out of an old blackberry bush and take take flight 6ft off the ground while constantly changing speed which causes them to dip up and down like a visible frequency or roller coaster. It's a waste of time for me, really. Regardless, there shouldn’t have been any reason to get shot. I’ve hunted Quail at 13yrs old on my 13yr old friend’s farm until dusk on numerous occasions.

Same thing for farmed birds. All farmed birds means it that domestically raised bird are released early enough so they can dig into the local environment for hunting. It's not like they're tied to a leash or held in mail bags just before shooting. In fact, a lot of hunts are done with domesticated birds these days at private clubs. Most clubs raise their own birds with the funds they pull together and have a large enough facility (usually a friend with a large farm) where they can release the birds so they can naturally thrive.

It’s a common misconception on how hunters are actually doing good for the environment by increasing game numbers back to more natural levels.

I doubt it. I have seen some people hit the bottle while waiting on a tree stand on a early morning deer hunt but never enough to get intoxicated (most just to get that warm feeling). Besides, you're completely fixed to that position with no way to shoot whomever is with you, if anyone is even accompanying you.

I have never seen or ever heard of any instance from someone I know regarding the use of any significant amount of alcohol during bird hunting. I'd even go so far to say that I have never witnessed the use of alcohol during any break in bird hunting. It's just way too involving to be that stupid or even consider it. And i've hunted with a couple people that were notorious for their drinking habits in other situations.

Let's not forget Cheney has a heart condition and an entourage of doctors within spitting distance. He was just embarrassed and in a state of shock. It's as simple as that. Imagine if you went to your doctor because you were feeling very ill. Imagine how embarrassed you'd be if the doctor diagnosed you with a terminal disease that's only contracted from having sex with sheep. You think you're going to tell your wife what you've been doing or do you think you'll lie and at least convince the doctor to not dwell on how it may have been transmitted? VP of the freeworld or not, I think his reaction would be pretty natural for anyone in a similar situation.

I don't know how a man getting shot accidently is offending... to anyone. But on the otherhand, having an affair in the Oval Office. That is just a disgrace to the entire United States.

They may as well have been shooting chickens for all the sport there is in shooting on a quail farm.
Salty explained it pretty well. But you would be surprised how many people go to ranches to hunt. I live on a farm in rural California. We do some hunting on our property, but it is not unusual for my dad to go on hunts in AZ, NM, CO, WY, etc. and hunt on a farm. They are usually a couple thousand acres of land that a guy owns. He makes his money by guiding guys like my dad who don't have the luxary of having elk so close and plentiful. Plus, it's fun to go hunting in new places.

With that.... I have always wanted to go on a Safari hunt.

Its been leaked that people where drinking. Cheney was proably one of them since he still drinks to this day regardless of his affliction. Also he is on blood thinners so that wouldn't help much. Something is not right about this and the media is picking up on this. If you or I shot someone and waited 14 hours before talking to the police we would be in jail. Pluss I really doubt Cheney was in "shock". His reaction and how he handle the situation is not at all natural, but thats up for debate.

P.S. He was hunting on a lobyiest grounds. So that makes it look even worse, and the fact that the owner of the farm was the person to break the story. Sad, even Bush knew how to handle the situation better when he shot a protected speices of deer.

The owner of the farm said he had a beer with lunch. Hardly enough to impair your judgement normally, now put yourself on blood thinners and who knows...

In the interview, Cheney firmly, and repeatedly said that the last beer he had before this was long before the accident happened.

Cheney is a bold faced liar. I wouldn't believe him as far as I could throw him. I would like to hear what other say before I trust him.

Sure...he 'accidentally' shot him. This is way too suspicous, they probably had an arguement and he shot him in a drunken rage.

Aprox. 150 a year, which result in about 70 deaths.
